There appears to be a huge mistake at Best Buy, the specs indicate a Core i3 but in reality there a Core i5 in the machine I can confirm it myself, I bought 2 of them, $499 each with a 10% discount coupon. Stores are selling fast since resellers and ebayers are hoarding them.
http://slickdeals.net/forums/showthread.php?t=1832293
Look at this thread everyone who purchases one confirms theres a Core i5 CPU. The SKU is 9721671 thats all you need.
The Specs are pretty amazing
4GB DDR3
Core i5 430M 2.53Ghz with Turbo Boost 32nm die
Bluray Drive with HDMI out
Its unlikely anyone could find a similar spec machine for that price maybe double.
I would act fast and call your local BB to hold one before They figure out they are selling a Core i5 15.6" inch laptop with a Bluray drive for the price of Core i3.

Tempting deal. The last time Gateway made a spec mistake was for Gateway P-7805U FX, WUXGA screens instead of WXGA. It was a hit then. This seems to be even a bigger spec error. Just googled and found many of these for sale on craiglist for $650 as advertised on gateway site. Wonder how the performance is like ? Sad no powerful graphic card for otherwise a high end system.
-
yeah if it had a decent vid card i might have picked one up for myself.
-
Tried mine today played Transformer 2 Bluray output HDMI 1080p to my Samsung 23" LED LCD desktop display.
and running the Huge AVATAR 1080p Trailer both at the same time.
the Core i5 430M 32nm Turbo Boosting past 2.53Ghz well it never had to even Turbo Boost it ran both and never went above 10%
All 4 threads working spread teh load pretty amazing fans never went on.
I guess Intel was not lying the new HD chipset can really handle multiple HD streams -
Going to check it out in the AM. The wifes machine is getting dated and this is definitely a good buy if it all works out.

Be aware this doesn't really go on sale until Sunday so BB's are keeping six on hand for then. So don't be surprised if when you get there they turn you away and tell you they can't sell them. Also the mistakes gateway's but lets see how they correct it lol.
-
I want one!
-
-
Actually its on sale already I bought 2, theres a 10% off Movers coupon that you can pick up at the post office.
Plus, if you wait till Sunday they will be sold out
Laptops are not like Video Games or Movies which can have a "Street Date" where the retailer gets in trouble if they sell it early.
This is just a Laptop at a very very good price (most likely a mistake)
Act fast don't wait.
I challenge anyone to shoe me a 15.6" Inch LED Laptop with 4GB DDR3 1066 RAM with a Intel Core i5 430M 2.53Ghz, and a Bluray Drive with HDMI out for $499. Your looking at double $499 easily. -

Very good deal. If only it had an MXM GPU.

It looks like the integrated graphics have 128mb dedicated video ram... thats not to shabby imo... At $500, I'm pretty tempted to buy this.
...Has anyone found that 10% off "movers" coupon that they are talking about being at the post office? -
Nice find. Good luck to all who jump on this. Good Job OP!
-
Picked one up just a little bit ago, did not have many in the cage (5) now 4. Confirmed i5 m430 and 499.99 + tax = 538.
-
BB must have mailed Citibank Cashreturns Mastercard members a coupon at the begining of this month for 10% off of any single item. It runs through 1st week of Feb. For those of you who got it and totally forgot abt that then this is another way of getting a 10% off.

I said they're keeping a minimum of 6 on hand for sunday so they may turn you away. It's not that it goes on sale on sunday but that's when the flyer comes out - the one that says store min is 5. Not that it matters now. -
Or if for wahtever reason they sell out ask the manager on duty for a "raincheck" as long as the item is not Discontinued they must honor the rain check and order you what you want from any Best Buy locally come back in a few days and bingo. Its that easy.
Enjoying watching 1080p Bluray via HDMI looks and sounds great.
Even though its only 15'6 inched and not as nice as my 17" RGB LED Studio 17.
Its still technically and noteable faster than my main machine now a T9400 Core 2 Duo 2.53Ghz 6MB Cache and 4GB DDR2 1066mhz RAM
The Core i5 is faster and the 4GB DDR3 RAM is faster also.
Gaming not so much 4.7 vs 6.0 WEI but I don't game at all.
What blows my mind is how I watch 2 1080p videos same time and the Core i5 is not even stressed. -
yup there's quite a few people hopping on to get this laptop. $500 is not bad at all for all the features minus graphics =)
-
How's the keyboard?
Is it springy? Are the keys separate opposed to like being a sheet of keys? -
I bought mine on Wednesday when the OP had posted it on SD.net, but I am returning it now. I didn't even open it. I don't need it

Well I went to buy my 3rd one as a gift and Best Buy has corrected the mistake its now showing up as $699 so congrats to everyone who managed to get one in time.
FYI the same Laptop is on the last page of the Sunday ad but its unlikely they will honor the $499 Price since they corrected the mistake. -
Give a try anyway on Sunday coz heard it must be their way of saving a few for sunday's sale else with the ad and no supply they would indeed find themselves in rough water. You could take your reciept to the same store and ask them to price match it. Unless your are sure that they have made it clear that it was a mistake.
-
Or you can walk in with the $499 Sunday Ad and get a Rain Check as long as the item is not discontinued they have to honor the $499 price and get you the item even of it takes 2 or 3 weeks or however long. -
Kind of sucks that I'm just days away from getting paid, and I missed out on this deal. -

Hey guys new to the forum. I just picked this laptop up and im loving it. Im having an issue though when i connect my laptop through the hdmi output there is no display on my television. I have a sony lcd KDL 46W4100. Any help is welcomed.
-
Fn+F something? Whichever has the LCD image. Might be F4 like on my mom's.
-
the keyboard on the NV models is a giant turd. flat, flush keyboard. the keys nearly run together, and the keys are a cheap feeling plastic, with the crappiest tactile feedback. worst keyboard i ever tried.
-
I agree. I have to ask, "What the #$%! were the thinking when they designed the keyboard on the NV series?"
And why is the CAPS LOCK button 4-5 times bigger than the Delete key? Why do keyboards even have a CAPS LOCK key anyway? I have no use for one, especially one that that's so freaking huge.
I never use the number pad either.
Anyone know of an aftermarket replacement keyboard that will fit the NV series? -
Thank you very much for more or less varifying my thoughts.
So happy I asked as I was about to jump in but now have go back to searching again. -
FWIW, the touchpad buttons really suck too, though I never use them.
-
-
Yes the keys suck and so does the 1378x768 res screen but so whats its a smoking fast machine.
Me I ditched my Desktop
Keeping the lid closed hooked up via HDMI to a 23" Samsung LED LCD 1920x1080p native resolution. using a Logitech Illuminated KB via USB 2.0 and a wireless Logitech Performance MX mouse.
Boom instant desktop with a Bluray drive Transformers 2 in 1080p looks amazing so does AVATAR in 1080p..
And for $499 its portable.
And to think I was considering spending $499 on an iPad or even $379.99 on a Netbook both of which are inferior. -
I have never been very fond of any laptop keyboard. I generally prefer to use a USB keyboard and mouse and save the built-in keyboard and touch pad for times when I'm on the road (which is not that often).

I picked one up.
Keyboard is tolerable. It's no Thinkpad, but it's better than the netbook it's replacing for work. The touchpad button, on the other hand, sucks HARD.
I'm having issues connecting to 5.8ghz 802.11N networks....in that it won't connect at all. It shows 300MBps at 2.4, and it's not like my NAS can saturate that anyway...but I'd still like to know what the issue is.
I'm planning on pulling the BR/DVDDL combo drive and swapping it out with a regular DVDDDL if I can from my Thinkpad. Now that the UltraBay Enhanced is SATA, there shouldn't be a proprietary drive interface...just bezels and mounting hardware, which should be swappable.
I've wiped it, reinstalled with 7 Ultimate. It's pretty damned good for the price...and outperforms my 2.6ghz HP (other than video). -
Anyone have an idea on how to add bluetooth. Theres an availiable slot for it but i cant seem to find the module.

Just curious, as I may swing by the BB today at lunch. Does it say i3 on the outside of the box or i5? Or does it say i3 and I have them open the box and turn on to see if its i5? How did you all know what you were buying? Taking a chance? Website for BB still says $499 for the NV5927u.
EDIT**-Nevermind, I should have read the first post instead of scanning it. "The SKU is 9721671..." -
All sold out around NJ
. Dont know if i trust online....
-
I pulled trigger on this deal after looking for a laptop for what seemed like a year. Bought Saturday at BB then went back Sunday to get price difference (in the end paid 499 + tax; I didn't have any coupon). Mine is i5 as well.
Key board is flat but just fine with me (I am not a touch typist though). I am pleased so far.
Can anyone tell me the optimal settings for doing the following:
1) Streaming Netflix to a 42" Sony XBR 1080p TV via HDMI
2) playing a BluRay on laptop output to a 42" Sony XBR 1080p TV via HDMI. Also should the quality of this setup be the same as a stand-alone BluRay player?
Thanks! -
Just went to BB in Leesburg, Va. Out of the i5 versions(9721671). Apparently on Saturday, the store was swamped with people from all over looking for those. Oh, well. Have fun with those guys, glad someone got a deal.

NecessaryEvil,
A few Q's for you if you do not mind as I polan to rebuild clean also.
Were all the drivers on GW's site that were needed to give full functionality of all cards/devices/buttons on top. Someone in another forum said when they rebuilt it from scratch that the buttons on top (volume, etc) did not work.
2. I was thinking of swapping the HD for a WD Balack 7200rpm drive. Do you think this would generate to much heat for this one ?
Thanks!

not happy with the core i3 since i think it is rated at 1.6ghz and all applications i can think of usually want between a 2.0 and 2.5 ghz with a 3.0ghz as recommended. Also it comes with Intel 4500hd Graphics which well wont even run standard games like Grand Theft Auto IV on high settings. I will take my laptop with 128bit cpu and 1 gig per core cach with 800 cores and 1tb of ram and 70tb solid state drive. and Intel did come out with a cpu that has 80,000 cores in testing labs....

I made recovery discs, and a drivers disc. I wish gateway still gave out OS discs, but I guess the Acer buyout has changed that. I didn't look online for the drivers.
I have the touch sensitive buttons working...however, the backup one (between the P and wireless) doesn't seem to do anything for me.
The wireless card seems to not be able to connect to 5ghz band, which SUCKS.
I'm curious of the battery life people are getting out of it. -
If this post is on-topic..it's an i5..not an i3....and GMA HD, not 4500HD...
Sure it doesn't stack up against your system...but then again...was yours $499?
As for GTA IV being a 'standard game' I've read in several places, that it's a poorly coded port from the consoles that consumes massive resources to play at decent settings?
This still looks like a killer deal if you don't need all of the extra power that a *MUCH* more expensive system would provide.. -
Anyone know if it still works? If you look up the SKU 9721671, it says it's 499 still, is that the right one?
-
Actually its already sold out online on BB. Not sure it will be the same price with the new stock if it comes. My guess, the price will remain same with the i3 processor in it (unlikely) or else the price will go up with i5 processors (more likely) in it (the current config). Gateway screwed it up by labeling NV5929 thats worth at least $650 as NV2927. On top of that BB included the same in their promotion.
-
There may still be stock at the local store level.
I contacted one of the southeast MI stores on Saturday (before the flyer went live) and they indicated that they had 26 units on hand with an additional 57 expected on their delivery Tuesday (Feb. 2)...
Just because the online warehouses are showing as out of stock does not mean that they are all gone chain-wide.
I'm looking for more GPU horsepower or I'd have jumped all over this. -
