Anyone have any experience with using the accidental insurance policy you can buy when purchasing a laptop from best buy?
If you have used this option before what happens? Do you get the same laptop or choose from their stock? Does the computer go to the geek squad first and they see if they can fix it?
Thanks.

i have used it many times. it takes a lot of damage for them to replace a laptop. they will allways send it to their repair center to see if they can fix it first. if they find the laptop cant be fixed they give you credit for how much your laptop was purchased for and you can choose from their stock. my 6860 is getting sent out to their repair center to see if they can fix my gpu fan.

Do BestBuy charge restocking fees for digital camera's bought online and are returned back without opening the box ? Actually i haven't picked up my camera yet using the store pickup option but its ready for pickup. Coz Circuitcity offers the same for a cheaper price. So will BestBuy charge me restocking fee's if i return it back at the same time while picking it up at the counter ? Any idea about that ?

Am I correct in assuming you have to buy the insurance when you buy the laptop?

You could bring a print out of the Circuit City ad or webpage to Best Buy when you go to pick it up and have it price matched by Best Buy. Easier than doing a return and purchase at two different stores.
Hope this helps.

Maverick,
Like jeremyp111 said, do a pricematch if you purchased the camera within, i think it is 14 days. If not, yes you can return without restocking fees if the box is unopened. They typically only enforce the restocking fee on big items and certain times of the year (ie week after Superbowl on televisions) and restocking fees don't apply to unopened merchandise. -
The laptop my girlfriend has now has a crack in the screen. She bought the accidental policy from best buy. We will be going in to them at the weekend to see if they will give a replacement on the spot or ifthey have to send it off.

Probably will be sent off first. If it's an average screen it's easily replaceable unless they deem the cost way to high (which they may, but also maybe unlikely depending on the "value" of your laptop).

I used it when my screen was going crazy. I'll give you a step by step of what happened.
1. I went to best buy with my laptop, and reciept
2. After a small wait, I told the geek squad dude what wrong, and showed him what happened. He documented what I said and gave me some stuff to sign, and number to track whats going on with my lappy.
3.He said (if I remember correctely) 3-4 weeks(?) But it actually only took 2 weeks. I was able to see every update online including shipping to and from their repair center. (PS: It was sent to a geek squad place, not gateway)
I went to go pick it up (brought the reciept yet again) I may have needed my ID also.. forgot. Also brought the service number that they gave me to pick up the lappy. A lady went to the back, I signed some more stuff and was on my way. Got home, everything was fine.
Note: nothing from my computer was deleted. And I was stupid enough to leave my password on there, but they just disabled it thankfully.
All in all, it was a good experience for me. It was faster than I expected too. -
I have used the Accidental handling at Best Buy, and my laptop was replaced by one of equal or lesser value of original purchase price. I paid 1500.00 for original one and new one cost 1500.00. The laptop does have to be completely rocked though. If it isn't they will fix it. It does take up to two weeks for determination, and after that you walk out of the store with you now one (if they have what you want) or you can wait until they have the one you want. Remember "only if" the damaged pc has got original price worth of damage. You can literally run it over with a steam roller to be guaranteed replacement, and...you can tell them it was run over be a steam roller and they cant say a word. The A.H. warrantee is a good to go warrantee and is true to what it says..."anything can happen to it and it get repaired or replaced.

In May of 2006 I bought a little Sony Viao, the 11" on, paid $2300.00 for it (that doesn't even include tax) then got the $499.00 insurance on it, being that it would be going with me everywhere, i would not risk it, especially such an expenseive computer.
Well, now almost 3 years later (my warranty will be up in May), I took it in for battery replacement (as it would last less than (10) minutes, optical drive replacement and antenna replacement.
I got it back yesterday, all replaced and fixed (except for the antenna). The repair costs would've been $799.74 (which I consider overpriced) but anyhow, they didn't replace the antenna. I was told that they don't cover missing parts. I asked how was that possible as I have accidental insurance. THen they tell me that the system doesn't even show I have accidental insurance.
Needless to say, very upset, I asked for them to reprint out my purchase receipt (which they did) since the original always fades away in a few months. There it clearly showed that I have accidental. The techs, of course, don't know what to go by except what the repair people write, and I ended up leaving with the missing antenna.
I will be calling bestbuy though, as I find it ridiculous that I after I spent over $2300.00 on this laptop and $500 on insurance..... they can't replace my antena? That piece missing is due to it accidentally getting yanked off somehow and lost, how is this not covered by accidental insurance?
What a SCAM!!!!!!!!!!!! -
Yeah, after hearing all those reviews I decided not to purchase it...
