never saw this one coming! 999.99 CDN. Too bad they didnt bring the 6880FX.
15.4"
T5550
320GB HDD
ATI Mobility HD 2600 XT
Vista 64

That is a good video chip. About 40% slower than the 8800m, but there is only one 15" with a 8800m (I think) and that's the Alienware.
$999 is a good deal for us in Canada. If you get it, you should post a review. -

Damn, kinda wish we had that in the states... Especially as a BB employee!
-
What?!? Now Gateway introduces a pretty powerful 15.4" notebook? I would rather take that nice 15.4" over a big fat 17".
-
Im heading down to toronto this weekend, ill try to pop in a best buy and get any extra info i can you. im still set on the 6060fx for the time being
-
thats sick! just a downsized version of the 6831
-
Wow did you see that it comes with the ATI HD2600XT, now that is a real nice graphics card, I believe it is just a notch above the Nvidia 8600M GT. I hope that someone gets one and does a review with some benchmarks. It would be nice to see how it does. That also means that it will soon be here in the USA !!!! God Bless

Hey all,
I'm in need of a laptop and after seeing this laptop, I'm wondering if I should get this instead of a Dell XPS 1530. The dell does seem kinda overpriced, specially in Canada where I hardly seen any good deals.
Is this laptop easily self upgraded like the P-6831FX, as in hard drive, ram, and cpu?
And are the specs worth the money displayed at bestbuy?
Thanks for all help -
yes this would be much better....this card is equalivilant to an 8700m GT so its a pretty decent card -
MICHAELSD01 Apple/Alienware Master
If Gateway put an 8800M GTS and a nice screen in it (the 17" has a terrible screen), then I'd probably consider getting this.
-
the screen looks to be the same as the 17" even though i havent seen the 17" in person, im judging by the specs which are almost identical to my hp dv6000 series. i dont think its as bad as everyone says personally.
i was impressed with the laptop, if anyone cares, the dvd rom is a tray and is situated under the keyboard on the right, near the top; no worries about the hand pressure issue i imagine.
if anyone has an questions about its looks or modeling ill try my best to answer them -

It's the 2600XT, not the 2600.
The 2600 DDR2 is slightly slower that of the DDR2 8600, and the same applies to the GDDR3 version, which is slightly slower than that of the GDDR3 8600.
The 2600 XT is a different card. -
I am well aware of that; I'm basing my reasoning on the fact that the HD 2600 got murdered and so the 2600 XT shouldn't be a huge leap in comparison with the 2600.
-
Heh, there's a big difference between them. The desktop HD 2600PRO is about a 8500GTwhile the 2600XT is about a 8600GTS. The Mobility 2600XT 512MB GDDR3 is on par with the 8700M GT... The XT has 200mhz more on the core than the 2600 and the 8700M GT has 125mhz more than than 8600M GT, plus sligtly better memory clocks
-
crap why dont they sell gateways in europe :S
Someone knows a webshop that might ship them to europe ? -
I just hope that this doesnt mean that the 6860FX does not come, i am SO looking forward to getting the 68SIX0FX, as soon as they release it here... -.-

The XT's been around, you just don't see it in many laptops. I do find it interesting that they managed to fit a better card than the 8600M GT without getting much attention. Would have thought people would have picked up on it. -
That is very good. Also lower CPU utilization when playing HD video. The XT is very good. I was doubtful too at first, but the numbers do not lie.
Very, very nice notebook for the <$1000. -
If they made a 15 inch 6860 FX that would be nice, the 1440x900 resolution would definitely make more sense on a 15 inch.
-
Then again, when you start putting 8800's into 15 inch, you'll need better cooling systems and that'll jack up the price (over $1500 perhaps).
-
True, I didn't think of the fact that 15's do have considerably smaller footprints and a much tighter thermal budget. It would still be sexi though -
Yea, but if it's over $1500, an Alienware m15x with T8100 and 8800GTX is only $500 away.
The T8100 upgrade is $200, so $300 for a 10% to 20% GPU performance boost, ridiculous battery life when needed, lighting effects and brandname simply means it wouldn't sell as well as it can at its current specs/price.
(Sorry I was drooling at an m15x just now, can't get it out of my mind.) -

Wow, what the heck? I was looking on Best Buy.ca for 2 monthes straight and Best Buy never had s**t. And now they come out with a nice machine like this? It's too bad, but I'm still happy with my XPS M1530. It's just that it took Best Buy Canada long enough to come out with something like this, geez...
-
Well I bought this machine on Saturday and it looked alright from the beginning. I had to take it back because the optical drive was screwed up and got an exchange. My 2nd unit seems to be working fine but the optical drive is still really loud.
Overall I guess its a decent machine but the cpu definitely needs to be upgraded. I dunno if a cpu upgrade is possible yet because I didn't open the lids on the bottom yet in case something goes wrong so that I still can return it to bestbuy within 14 days
Anyone else get this machine?
Cheers -
HotCarlsUp are you able to download and run 3DMark06 ?? I would like to see the score it gets with the ATI HD2600XT that it has in there at stock settings. Thanks for any info. God Bless -
I'll try my best to download 3dmark and run it tomorrow after I get back from school. Dunno about stock settings though because I did a clean system wipe due to all the crapware Gateway installed.
Cheers -
That will be good enough. Please let us know how it goes. God Bless -
-
yes, please let us know, I really hope they bring this model to the US
