i installed it...i bought it for my hp dv9740, but didn't like the video card as much as i would like, so went out and bought this one. and just moved my chip and screen to this one. no problems.

what do you want for it?

nice.
What else is that screen in?
I liked the sony xbrights wonder if they fit. that Asus seems like a beast, like 300$ though. -
not sure, but it's brighter in the gateway than the hp. i think i'll take it down to the store and compare it against a dual lamp tomr.

I have the regular samsung screen which is not terrible, but bought partly to do cad and rendering with so higher res would be nice.
Just blew 1000 on a 12"cintiq though so kinda hard to justify spending much more on monitors. Need to upgrade processor first -

I just put in a LG Philips LP171WU1 (A4)(K6) 17" WUXGA LCD into my P-6831FX. I noticed other forum people trying this model and decided to give it a shot. Got this one off ebay for $165.
I really like it a lot, much better colors and viewing angle.
Not sure what the (A4)(K6) means. Seems like LG made a lot of other revisions....
My LP171WU1 panel, I think, was made for a Dell. I plugged in the LP171WU1 into my original Gateway inverter instead of the inverter that came with the LP171WU1 panel. My LP171WU1 had brackets on the top and bottom of the lcd that I had to remove by prying them off with a small screw driver. The bottom bracket had an inverter attached with one screw that I removed first before removing the bottom bracket. I don't think all LP171WU1 lcds have these brackets so you might want to get one without them to make your life easier. No big deal though... -
ok, the model i put in has no extra brackets. it is just screen and that's it. not cutting moding or molding of anything. and so far, it seems to be the right screen for the hp dv9700 series and now the gateway p-6800 series, but with one catch...it is way brighter in the gateway.

Thanks for the info on the back light and the brackets. This seems to be a sore point on a few posts that i have read doing this.

Update 4:
I wanted to answer some questions and give you an update.
1. The LCD has been great! No dead pixels, zones, or anything else. Just a very nice 1680x1050 bright LCD screen. I have not had a single issue. In fact, most of the games I play have been very good with it. So far I've been playing SWAT 4, BF 2, Rainbow Six Vegas 2, and this is forcing a 1680x1050 res (if you can't select it in game) with everything maxed.
Again, I couldn't be happier. Kudos to SmartMicroUSA.
2. Here is all the info I have on my monitor via some snooping software. Pics are also included:
Monitor Properties:
Monitor Name Generic PnP Monitor [NoDB]
Monitor ID APP9C4F
Manufacturer LTN170WP
Model Color LCD
Manufacture Date Week 31 / 2005
Serial Number None
Max. Visible Display Size 37 cm x 23 cm (17.2")
Picture Aspect Ratio 16:10
Gamma 2.20
DPMS Mode Support None
The date says Week 31 of 2005 but I don't believe that is correct. Nothing about it seemed anything but a new LCD. The packaging, when inspected the LCD, the brightness of the TFT, the sharpness of the display... I mean I could be wrong, but I haven't seen anything to lead me to believe this LCD isn't a few months old.
I have carted around the notebook for the past week, played games with it, done work with it, and used it just like normal. No issues at all. In fact, I've been evangelizing the whole 'replace/upgrade your LCD'. Heck, if I would have known how simple it was, I would have done this years ago...
I hope this info helps. Again, if you have any questions, let me know.
Cheers!
