I am contemplating adding a T9900 CPU to my laptop as others have done. I am currently running the original, 9c.05 bios with no issues at all. I am not interested in RAID, at least right now. Before I upgrade my cpu, which bios, if any, should I upgrade to? I don't want to introduce new issues such as fan noise, heat problems, that others have experienced after upgrading their bios. In other words, will the 9c.05 bios recognize the T9900 as is or is a newer bios necessary, and if so,which one? I see that many like the 9c.08, but later ones are causing problems. Any thoughts would be appreciated. I read the T9900 thread and others, but it wasn't clear about the bios requirement. Any thoughts will be appreciated.

ive never had problems with the 9c.17 bios but in your case what i would do is try the t9900 with the current bios and if that doesnt work the put the old one back in update the bios then put the t9900 in again.

unless you want the features of the newer bios there isnt any reason you should update it if it works fine.

Thanks. I probably should update to 9c.17 anyway.

I had installed a T9900 in my 7805u back when I had the .12 bios in it (if I remember right). It worked fine.

Technically, since you're not jumping across architectures (i.e.: like going from a s939 Athlon 64 to a s939 Athlon 64 X2 on a systemboard that was made before the X2's were released), it shouldn't give you any grief. Since the Core2 line is pretty much the same across the board, except for a speed bump and voltage efficiency, your system shouldn't complain. At worst you may see an error about the microcode or an unrecognized CPU, but it would still work (maybe not optimally though).

Just to be on the safe side, flash to .17 before you drop in the new processor and you should be fine.

BTW, if it's not obvious from my example above, yeah I have had that issue creep up with my old AGP s939 NF3 based system. Man was that a hornet's nest! :D

Yea I use the 9c.17 too and I installed the T9900 cpu with that bios. Everything runs flawlessly.
