Best buy WILL price match

Well went up to best buy today (didn't have enough money for the laptop unfortunately..) but I wanted to try something out for you guys.

I walk up to the laptop and start messing around with it and we start talking about it, I told him that I really wanted the laptop in A very bad way but I didnt understand why it was marked up 400 dollars from its price. so we get to talking and I ask if they will do A price match to the M.S.R.P of the laptop on gateway (the retail one of course)

So he gets on the computer and goes to the gateway website and cross matches the laptops number with the retail one on Gateway's website and says that there is absolutely no problem in getting the laptop to price match with its M.S.R.P I asked if other stores used the same policy and he said that they should it made no sense not too. I verified the price match by talking with another employee. so YES best buy WILL price match the laptop.

Just don't be hasty and mean, and try to get as nice of a rep as you can good luck you guys!

Completely luck of the draw. Depends on who you talk to, how the store is doing, how the department is doing, budget and margin.

 

If its any help I talked to the reps that were in back in the laptop section. so depending on how hard you try (different stores / reps) you should be able to do it 1350 is still A killer price

 

I think I'm going to just go with the FX's directly from Gateway though.

If you ever worked retail, you should know the phone operators are the last people to ever hear, understand, or even know about ANYTHING going on in the store. Their ability is essentially reading the store policy to verbatim or checking a computer for stock.

In other words, go in and talk to someone. The answer still maybe no, but the phone person should never be considered the final word.

I recently bought a Gateway lappy from BestBuy and it went on sale within two weeks of my purchase. As a result, I got a $100 credit.....but I originally bought it from BB.

Yeaps, while 1350 isn't the price with the sale, it's still a very great deal. I'll go talk to a BB rep someday soon and ask them if they'll pricematch. If they say no, I'll ask the manager to give it to me in writing that they will specifically refuse to price match gateway's advertised retail price. That'll show em.

I got mine open box but never run. $1250 no free game I could have gotten the last sealed box for $1,350. IMHO you should wait to Feb. 17Th when GW ships the 2ghz model for $1,349.20. (quoted)

I have things to do and in a big hurry to wrestle with Vista. I planed to pull the CPU and could have plopped the faster chip in my wheezing 1705.

 

Whats this about feb 17th? did they up the ship date? Also, if you've got a rep that will give you 1349 after shipping, share. I got one down to 1624 after shipping, tax, 3 year warrant and unit, but she wouldn't promise that price for more than 24 hours. I have a feeling if we all band together when we buy, some rep will make a killer comission and be willing to pass on the good will in the form of discounts.

armyofchad, I mis-read my quote, it's Feb 15th. I'm sure this will change as date nears. The price is before shipping and state taxes.

I think they mean the p171s fx is going to start selling on the gateway website. And wait, 1349 for the 2 gigahertz version? That's definitely even more worth it than the BB one going at 1349 at the moment. If you have rep phone numbers and such, share away! I'm sure many people here would love to get a good deal, along with the rep getting lots of commission. Earn a little less profit per unit but earn a lot more profit in the long run. =)

 

no it means the estimated shipping date is feb 15 and he got the gateway with the t7250 processor quoted for 1350.

 

Yeap, that's what i mean, the t7250 fx laptop quoted for 1350, that's a definite steal. Wonder if there's a phone number to the rep so we can all give that person major commission for not being greedy with higher personal profit per sale.

 

got mine today for 1199, with a mouse and tax it was $1398...good eal i think
