I went in to best buy 4 times this week, I got a raincheck too or so I think. He got down my information so when they come in next(if they do).

Today I went in and said are you getting more in for next week or so, and they said they dont have any coming in or so that says on the computer. I then asked,"so how many did you start the week with" the employee said "1". I then asked him how do you have a sale on an item with none in stock the whole week besides the 1 they sold in the first hour on sunday? He said, I honestly agree with you.

    GG.

How do you have a sale on a laptop and only have 1 that sold on sunday within the first hour of the sale.

Edit: Sorry I felt like ranting. I'm so frustrated I couldn't get in on this deal. :(
I even called 10 best buy stores in the area on monday and none of them said they were in.

Thanks for sharing, I've been a bit interested in this notebook myself. Maybe they'll get more in in a few weeks or something.

lol when I got my DV6233se last year from BB, they had 8 of them and I got the first one. They sold out in like 2 minutes and the laptop section was like a mosh pit when the store opened.

It's not strictly bait and switch since they aren't asking you to buy something else.

There's baiting, but technically no switching. Not that I don't sympathize with you.

Go to another Bestbuy near you and order one at sales price before its too late. Screw the this store you went 4 times. Obviously they are morons. Go to different one and ask to have one ordered and pay in full amount and pick up a free copy of game now, not later. You have until tomorrow to take advantage of this deal.

Hey peteryorkuca, is there light bleed on your screen? That's something a reviewer noted on his unit, and I was wondering if your's had it too.

My Best Buy must be special. Whenever they run out of a big ticket sale item and it isn't some kind of one day sale (ie Black Friday) they are willing to order in one of the items for me from their warehouse. I've done it twice, once to get an HDTV than a couple weeks ago to get the 6831. I pay when I order, they ship it to the store and I get it within three days and I don't have to pay any extra fees.

Yes, light bleed at bottom of the screen. Its only noticable when screen is black. When gaming, no. When inturwubing, no. I don't really see a problem with it tho. Some guys here really dreads it. So, its depending if you are really picky or not.

So, if you're looking at the screen straight, how far up the screen does the light bleed?

I also love my FX. Take the price out of the equation. Adding all the problems people had and take that into considersation like flexing, bleeding, keyboard, orange color, screen res, list goes on and on and on.

Well, I find media buttons to flex but it only moves when I push real hard on the button. Like I can make my Logitech G15 flex too when I push real hard on it. Same with my G5 mouse when I just when loco on the hard plastic. I know my FX flex to a degree but it don't bother me plus I don't use those buttons.

Screen bleeding don't bother me, unless I constantly stare at the black screen, keyboard is fine, I know where my shift-2 is to type my @, I sorta memorized it by now. I like my orange scent. 1440x900 is great. I don't like looking at small things. And gaming on this res is great on max settings unlike when you play on higher res like 1900x1200.

So with the price out of the equation, I would buy this laptop from among other non-existing 8800mGTS laptops with similar screen size... HP HDX is not a laptop :p

Its gotten extremely popular, if you had been interested a few weeks ago, you would have had no problem finding one. Now its kinda like trying to find a Wii or nintendo DS at christmas time. Give it some time to for supply to catch up with demand.

For the price I think its fantastic for budget concious high end portable gaming, as a notebook in general though, aside from the top tier graphics card, everything elsae is sub par, you would do better building a gaming desktop, and buying a much smaller more portable non gaming oriented laptop. Especially if the unit is mainly going to be anchored in a single stationary location.

I second that, BTW the Samsung screen has very little light bleed compared to the one I got on first 1705. 1440x900 is perfect, as above, to not dog the FPS. DVD's and Pictures look good as well.

Yep, I got a raincheck too, and the guy said that they normally get computers like the Gateway in every 3 days to 2 weeks. We shall see if he is correct. What stinks is that I was literally 30 seconds too late, and the people right in front of me got the last one.

At my best buy, I asked if they sold these laptops a lot and he said no, they usually sell smaller cheaper ones..so mines always going to be in stock i guess.

Why didn't you just have them order it for you at the store and have it shipped to your house. That's what i did, it was out of stock in the store. I asked if they could order it for me, and i was told sure, do you want to pick up here when it comes in or we can ship it to your house for free. Sure enought 4 days later it show up at my door via UPS.

Just bought mine today. The first Bestbuy I went to had a tag in the plastic sleeve in front of the one on display, when I tried to buy it, the sales guy said "let me check inventory to see if we have it". They were all out. They really should remove these tags if their sold out. Then he checked the inventories of all other stores in the area (Atlanta). There were maybe a total of five in all of Georgia, with no more than one at any store. Anyway, he pointed to one of the remaining five, about an hours drive away, and I got that stores last one. And, although I've only had it a few hours, it seems to be faster than my desktop.

    Happy so far,
    budman

Yeah I went in today to that, and they said there were none even at the best buy warehouse to even order. He said they had one on ship for this week and that they get shipments every wednesday and saturday. He said to call up in the morning so I will try that. I also went in today to pick the raincheck on a piece of paper, so that I have proof and there is no date on the raincheck so I have the gateway at the 1199.99 price for awhile I'm assuming.

He said they sold out so fast.

Just a helpful hint from a BBY employee (one of the few who actually does know what he is doing, I know, it's rare) this laptop should have some quantities in the warehouse for ordering wh to store or wh to home/office very soon, in a few days in fact. It probably doesn't help that some of us employees are taking advantage of this laptop. That, and we really love having it. Take advantage of those rainchecks, oh, say after Thursday... It really isn't bait and switch, ads are developed weeks in advance, before demand is a factor.

I thought Bait and Switch at first then I tried the good ol money talks trick.

I did the order-n-wait on the 23rd so I could get the discount even if every BB was out of stock within a 50mile radius of my home. According to my receipt I have to wait until this Saturday for the item to be shipped in.

I don't need this laptop for another few weeks; I will be traveling to some Lan Parties. For now I will enjoy the free copy of CoD4 I picked up(as opposed to the "shared" ware one I have been using).

Any idea if we can forecast a drop in price when bestbuy stores get this in stock again? I missed out this deal the last day it was going on. Went down to my BB in Spring, TX and they were all sold out. Everyone was sold out in the region. Am I SOL or can i find another bestbuy deal in the next couple of weeks (or does someone have a rain check they want to sell :D )

They didn't have any in stock at the Best Buy that I got my P-6831FX from so I told them that I would buy the display that they had up. It was a good deal except for the tiny scratch that was on the screen. Other than that I'm glad I didn't have to wait.

Right as I was checking out they were selling this guy a desktop version of the computer and he was glaring at my laptop probably thinking how did you get one they told me they were sold out lol!

I don't think I would buy ANYTHING that was on display. You should have asked for a discount, since it's the model they use to show everyone else, so you know many people have already touched it and messed with it.

I work at The Woodlands, TX Best Buy (you know, like 10 miles north of the Spring store). There's really no telling when prices are going to drop on these things. The ads are made in advance, but the stores don't actually get the ads until about 3-5 days before the go active. The discounts are usually from kickbacks by the manufacturer, or the manufacturer is offering a mail in rebate, in which case Best Buy just takes the rebate off the price in the store instead of you having to mess with that.
