What do you feel are the best components you can put into a 7811-FX?
Hard drive (biggest standard SATA HDD, or SSD, for each slot)
Express Card (best option for it, TV tuner, SSD, WWAN card, or other)
RAM - What is max GB of RAM and speed
Processor - What is going to be the best processor this thing will take (Saw the thread on quad cores and looks like it is a no go)
Screen - think 1920 x 1200 will be the best for awhile?
PCI-Express slots - Best Wifi, Bluetooth, SSD, WWAN, or other
GFX Card - is it even upgradeable and if so, to what? (Don't think it is but could be wrong here)
Keyboard - are there any other options, something with a backlight perhaps? (Don't think touchpad can be changed)
Optical Drive - will we see upgradeable slot-loading drives for this thing or blue ray?
And anything else! Don't be redundant e.g. PCI-express: WWAN and Express Card: WWAN

    Hard drive: 2 7200rpms in a RAID 0

    Express card: Don't know

RAM: I think they make 4 gig notebook DDR3, so some of that at 1333 Mhz to make 8 gigs total. Man, that would be overkill though, and expensive.

Processor: Not the P8600, but the one above that, at 2.8 Ghz. It's still pretty pricy.

Screen: 19200 x 1200 is plenty for the 9800m gts

    PCI slots: Don't know

Graphics: The 9800m gts 1GB version. If you could upgrade, then I guess the 9800m gtx.

Keyboard: Don't know, but this one seems fine.

Optical Drive: Couldn't you swap it out for a blue-ray?

What do you feel are the best components you can put into a 7811-FX?
Hard drive - 2x whatever sata ssd floats your boat (intel or MTron preferably)
Express Card - expresscard soundcard probably, or maybe a tuner here and something else in the mini pcie
RAM - if money is REALLY no object 8gb, but its 1000 bucks, why spend that kind of cash on a used notebook
Processor - again money no object x9100, otherwise just get a T9800
Screen - not getting any higher res, higher resolutions require dualink
PCI-Express slots - half mini wifi card and an OTA digital tuner id say
GFX Card - no dice, again buy a faster laptop if this one isnt enough
    Keyboard - not likely
Optical Drive - they already make SATA blurays that will work
    get the internal bluetooth module

    My thoughts...
Hard Drive - either 1TB of regular HDD, or if money is no object, two SSD's of max size.
Express Card - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16815100036 would have to go with that, not really a fan of sound express cards
    RAM - 8GB DDR3
    Processor - X9100
    Screen - perhaps a matte 1920 x 1200?
PCI-Express - Believe there are two so... one intel 5300 and the other for bluetooth or another SSD
GFX - sad to hear but not really a problem, just get a cooler and overclock if you ever have problems!
Keyboard - too bad, backlite one would be wonderful
Optical drive - slot loading blue ray burner (wishful thinking)

Don't get it at all, because you can't fit it in P7811-FX expansion slot. That card needs full PCMCIA but FX has mini PCMCIA. For this kind of soundcards :
    http://www.amazon.com/Creative-Expr...71000000/dp/B000QRV3NU/ref=dp_cp_ob_e_title_1
This may be also an option :Sound Blaster X-Fi Go!
    http://ee.europe.creative.com/products/product.asp?category=1&subcategory=208&product=17872

Or some external audiocard for notebooks.

Notice the difference, there is little piece cut of .

    EDIT:
LOL.... never mind the hole text, just looked the info of the previously mentioned Sound Blaster X-Fi Notebook and it has the new 34mm ExpressCard format to support most notebooks. So it should fit fine in 7811FX. Just the first picture in the link was bad, so i tought the card was full pcmcia layout :D MyBAD!

NVM, after looking at your link you were talking about pcmcia, any expresscard will fit the laptop, but older pcmcia/cardbus cards wont fit at all, completely different standard anyways.

Im thinking about upgrading the cpu in my 7811. Its between the T9800 and the X9100. Also would the QX9300 be an option? And would any of these bring up any heat issues?

If you have a 7811FX I'd stay away from anything other than the P9600 due to the TSZ0 temperature issues. The T9800 is a 35W TDP, the X9100 is 44W, and the QX9300 wont work. The P9600 is only 25W TDP so it shouldn't increase the temps by any significant amount.

Thanks mike. Yea I went ahead and ordered the T9600 after reading a few threads. Seems as though the P8400 runs very cool so this upgrade shouldn't be a problem. Will there be a noticeable FPS increase with this chip?

Depends a lot on the game and resolution, if your running 1920x1200 on most games you probably won't see a big increase in most instances since the graphics card is the bottleneck not the CPU. If you're running at a lower resolution the CPU will definitely help though, newer games like GTA IV are starting to really tax the CPU as well as the GPU.

No the video components are soldered in, and I believe the 1gb version is a different GPU as well as more ram (55nm instead of 65)

Wouldn't they have called it the 10800m GTS if it was a different gpu?

No, just like why didn't they call the rehashed 8800GS something other than a 9600GSO when the GT is a completely different card. Or for that matter why do they call the desktop 9600GT a 9800M GTS when its in a laptop? lol For whatever reason only 55nm parts come with 1GB, and ALL 55nm parts are 1GB cards, in both the desktop 9600GT and the 9800M GTS mobile version. I assume they "up market" the numbers in laptops since you can't start far enough below the desktop numbers without running out. The GTX is the only 9800 laptop model that shares commonality with the desktop version of the same #.

I would like just 1 or 2 extra USB slots in the 7811FX, then it would be perfect, hate the fact I only have 3, my mouse and laptop cooler take 1 slot up, maxtor 750GB drive takes up another and third usually my camera or phone to charge them.

I guess im USB dependent! :)
