I'm looking to purchase a CPU upgrade (T9800 or X9100) and wanted to get some suggestions where can buy one at a very nice price.
I've checked ebay and everything looks to be Chinese Intel ES chips which spooks me or they are overprice. Ebay makes me nervous to buy something like a chip off of.
Are there any legitimate places in the States that sell and offer nice discounts. Since its my first CPU upgrade I want to make sure I get the best price in case I FUBAR it up badly. I've been watching the videos and doing a lot of reading about CPU swapping so it sounds pretty doable if take my time and prep everything right.
Thanks for any advice!!

LOL.
It's not rocket science my friend.
It pretty easy and takes a few simple steps.
Ebay is actually pretty good. Hit up IdiotPilot so he can tell you where he got his chip from. He got a x7800 for only like 195. I went to the guys stor and he has a x9100 for like 500 or 450 USD.
Check it out -
ok I'll check out that guys store on ebay. I just read about a lot of chip scams on ebay, so it's good to hear of a reputable one.
-
hmm I can't find IdiotPilot on ebay..perhaps a link?
edit: gah, I am stupid, just a poster on here eh? Guess I will ask him -
post what he says... I'd be curious to know myself.
From ebay it seems as though the T9800 is roughly $400-550 depending if you get an ES or OEM.
The x9100 looks to be $700+
Is the x9100 wort the 200+ cost? It's only a few Mhz faster. The only thing I'm think is to wait to see if any of the quad cores work in the 7801 or 7805u (new Best buy model). I think that could be better bang for the buck if it indeed works without any hassles. -
His name doesn't fit him well obviously, great prices, http://myworld.ebay.com/sciences_art/ thanks a lot Pilot!. Is the X7800 with the P-7805u?
-
Anyone know what the major difference is between the T9800 or X9100... both look almost the same spec wise. All I can see is a slight speed increase in the x9100.
Is there any reason to spend the extra cash for a little bump in speed ? -
I think the X9100 is overclockable, its eXtreme dude!

That is why I'm just going to go for the t9800. It almost half the price, and a difference of .1mhz (since you can't OC the Extreme over 3ghz, and T's don't OC at all) -
You cant OC the x9100's in the P-78xx series sadly . So either wait to see if the Quadcores work or grab the 2.8ghz as its quite abit less and the X would almost be a waste for the 200mhz more you going to get from it seeing as you cant get the full potential of the chip.
-
So what about the all-new Q9000? It has 4 2ghz cores and 12 megs of cache, I believe...or, better, expect
-
Well... unless it states that each core has 2ghz, i beleive that is 2ghz for the whole cpu.
And would the FX's be able to take that chip? -
each core is 2Ghz, and yea they should be able to, the BIOS update enabled that I thought? -
electrosoft Perpetualist Matrixist
Q9100 has 12mb cache total (6mb per chip) @ 2.26ghz
QX9300 has 12mb cache total (6mb per chip) @ 2.53ghz OC'able
Q9000 is their low end, entry level, el cheapo Quad Core.

Well, I ordered a t9800 off ebay for about 320 including shipping. It's also from China, I should be getting it soon. So I'll let you know in a few days how it goes. I hear the ES chips can't monitor temps, but we'll see.
-
The Q4JN B1 ES stepping of the T9800 can't monitor temps due to being pure ES (Engineering Sample) but the QJFL E0 QS (Qualification Sample) stepping can. The E0 stepping is the most recent that Intel are also using for OEM T9800 which has speed path improvements to enable higher frequency bins and thus run at lower temps. I use extremeprocessor for all my CPU purchases. Top man and always has the latest revisions.
You also have to be weary of Micro-FCBGA CPUs (chips with no pins) being repackaged to be Micro-FCPGA CPUs (chips with pins). You always want original Intel Micro-FCPGA CPUs. Some dodgy sellers have repackaged Micro-FCBGA chips and they can be really bad quality. If you plug and unplug them too many times the pins can completely fall out!
For example this seller. He now states on that advert the CPU is BGA converted to PGA which is not good. Supposedly lots of his other CPUs are also converted BGA, but he doesn't say so. Stay away. -
How can you tell what stage the cpu is at based on the model number? For example I'm looking at one that's Q4JN ES B1. And I see another one that's SLGES, supposedly that one is the oem chip? Is there much of a difference between the ES one and the oem one besides the obvious that one is a sample and one is in the market?
-
Yeah I tell you exactly what the difference is in the previous post.

Whoops, reading comprehension ftw!
