I continued investigating my new 7515 (4 days) and realized that is equiped with a HTS54101 drive.....it was supposed to be a Fujitsu 4200RPM, but this one is a Hitachi TravelStar 5K100 model which is 5400 RPM and 8MB buffer!!!!!

And it's only $1199, my god I think I did a NICE buy.

Just for you to know and check yours...I had a good surprise with this baby....maybe you can run to BestBuy and get yours.

I've heard of this happening once before, and someone mentioned GW uses what ever drives they have in stock even if its a faster one. Looks like you scored!

Not loud at all, the only sound I can hear is the cooling fan blowing when the CPU gets into full speed.
Havent pay much attention to it thogh, tonight I will check away from other noises (TV, kitchen) and let you now.

About noise, I don't really hear a loud noise from the HDD...mine is pretty quiet.
Are you sure is a Hitachi one?

I just found out I also have a 5400 rpm (using everest software). It's very quiet, certainly not any louder than my desktop. Do you think that this was just a mistype and everyone got 5400 rpm drives?

At least Gateway's website AND my laptop packaging and specs said it was a 4200RPM....as Ginzero says maybe its only that they were out of stock and put what they can find out there.....not many laptops come with 100GB 4200RPM now...although smaller ones do so.

Just got the MX7515 at BestBuy for $1199 and it came with the Hitachi (HST) drive (11/27). The box said 4200rpm but its a 5400!!!

What a nice little bonus... ;)
