I was reading Terms of service for Microsoft 7 (Am I really only one that does read this?) and I noticed something funny - half way down they explain they can shut off OS 7 anytime they please, after all its only a beta. Not quite sure how this works, but never less my friend had the sad mistake of having his beta shut down (I guess apparently it won't let you login at all?)

I don't think I will be installing OS 7 if they can simply shut it off whenever they please. There were a few other things I read I can't remember suddenly, but no less its funny a few OS 7 fanboys will be doing everything in OS 7 and forget about the TOS.

Mostly they won't disable a BETA or RC OS until a couple months into the final release to allow people to transition. Vista RC for example didn't get disabled until June 30, half a year after its public release. This is normal in the terms of service for a BETA/RC.

Really I always assumed they'd cancel the beta months before the release not after. Then again i only delt with gaming beta's not operating systems.

I'm not even bothering with BETAs this time around, I consider Vista the RC for Windows 7 and my Vista 64 is running great.

It's a Beta software, and as such you shouldn't even REMOTELY depend on it being reliable, or functional. If you can't afford to lose data etc you're using with it, then just don't use it.

Not the case with Windows 7. Have a look around the net at the number of people using it on their primary machine. It's rock solid and a superb OS even in it's beta state.

I think your friend installed it without a beta key. It will work for 30 days if you do this, but not a day longer.

If you have a beta key and use that with the Windows 7 beta, it will work until at least Aug 1st. It may get extended after that, but that is the first "cut-off" for now.

This is the same thing that happened with the Vista beta. If you have a legit beta key, you have nothing to worry about. It does clearly state that you should only do this if you understand the repercussions. Once Win7 goes live, you will NOT be able to just upgrade from the beta. You'll have to do a full re-install anyway.

Win7 Beta is supposed to be a temp thing.

Also on another note, if you still have your Vista BETA key it will work with Win7.

He's one of the "hackers" who believes having OS 7 / Mac OS / Linux installed on a laptop makes him look cool. Never the less looking at what he had installed on his 7811, he claims microsoft shut down his beta key, I do believe his time just ran out. However I explained to him twice that if he had anything he needed to save from windows, simply install a working windows OS and he can access the information if he can't by linux already. I am not going to bother fix his problem just warn others from what I read in the TOS.

I installed OS7 for probably an hour and tinkered with it and uninstalled, frankly Windows vista and Ubuntu work just fine for what I'm doing.

That's all well and good until the betas expire before the final OS comes out and you can't use it anymore. Win7 final isn't expected for at least 2 months after the beta keys expiration.

That's that I believe is going to happpen, I don't see a point in having beta on my PC and wait a few months for Win 7 to come out. Win 7 does look nice, seems much more smooth then win 64, I really can't tell much of a difference, I don't think I will even buy win 7 until the first patch comes out. That's coming from having Win98, Second edition was the better version, XP SP1, Vista SP1.

Nothing like having Vista before service pack came out, was truely horrible.

Well it's definately going to happen in August, that's when Win7 beta expires. The final release version isn't expected until later in the year.

As all have others said. I am using it on my P-7805u..it works great, much faster than Vista and I have put two more programs on my laptop. Only thing is freaking punkbuster isn't supporting it, so some games don't work on W7...and they said they won't supports W7 til release..though it isn't too important and doesn't affect all games with PB(CoD 4 for example).
