Hey all, I've recently reformatted my Gateway MX6025 with Windows XP and being the idiot that I am installed the wrong driver for Mass Storage Controller.

When I start up now, it tells me that Windows did not shut down properly and gives me the option to start Windows in safe mode or to start windows up normally. It will then give me the blue screen when I choose either of the options. The error is something like STOP 00x0000c7.

Anyone have any ideas on how I can fix this? I apologize if I've left out any important information that'll help solve the problem.

    Thanks. :D

Have you tried another reformat and install? Might be annoying but its the simplest fix

I agree that the simpliest fix is a full format and install with correct SATA driver.

An alternative would be to go in the BIOs and turn off the SATA drive configeration. The exact wording varies from BIOs to BIOs.

    Thanks for the replies!

I've tried to just reformat again but after copying the set up files, I get the blue screen again.

I've also tried looking in the BIOS to disable SATA configuration but couldn't find any option even remotely close to SATA. The closest setting I've found would be Local Bus IDE Adapter. Would that be the equivalent of the SATA configuration? I have tried disabling the IDE Adapter as well and Windows would not even load.

    Thanks again!

Take out your drive. Put it in another machine/external enclousure and do a complete format of the drive. Your laptop might be hanging out due to the wrong controller. Getting the drive ccompletely clean should allow you to start from scratch.

I had tried taking out the drive but it isn't SATA. I doesn't look like it'd fit IDE either. Any idea what else it could be?

Please pardon my inexperience with all this and I very much appreciate the help given so far.

If you have a bootable install CD/DVD use the options to full format the drive first. Usually that is under Custom install...........
