I am expecting delivery of a p-7811 fx later this week... I noticed an add on bluetooth module available on ebay item #250381111661... My question is if this is an easy install ??? Also if anyone has added a module like this---does it work good ??? Thanks...

It's cheaper to buy a usb bluetooth device. The only downside of that is that you will have to use a usb port when you want to use bluetooth.

Its not too bad to install, did mine a couple nights ago. I haven't tested mine yet. The full instructions are at: http://www.bigwheezy.com/7805/bt.html .

I found part of the intructions to be a little bit vague, it's a little bit tricky to get the quick launch buttons off. Then after you get the keyboard off it's a little tricky to get the palm pad bezel off. I think it took me about 30 minutes.

Thanks for the input... I kicked this around and decided to have the add on board if it's not that much of a project... Permanent factory bt type would be more to my liking...

Thanks... I ran a search for "bluetooth add on module for gateway p-7811 fx" and I got 10 or 11 hits... Problem is, most ended being on page 7 of a 20+ page thread, and it turned out to be "bluetooth module" in someone's signature...

Thanks---if it is just a 30 minute deal I'll likely go ahead and send off for my module...

You have two ways to add bluetooth to your machine.

The first one is straight and simple, you have to get the module like this:
    http://cgi.ebay.com/Dell-Wireless-370-Bluetooth-module-for-Latitude-5400_W0QQitemZ180334053618QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item180334053618&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1234|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1318|301%3A0|293%3A2|294%3A50

Also, there will be needed antenna. You will have to open the CPU bay
and insert the new module into the one free MPCIA port over there. The Con
is... the Fn + F6 combination will not work, you will still may to turn off
the Bluetooth with the main switch in front of the notebook, however along
    with wi-fi.

The second way is more complicated, you will have to take the laptop all
apart to be able to mount the module into the motherboard.
The needed module you will find here:
    http://cgi.ebay.com/New-2-0-Bluetooth-Module-for-Gateway-P-7811-FX-cable_W0QQitemZ220368280799QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item220368280799&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1234|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1318|301%3A0|293%3A1|294%3A50

The Fn + F6 will work fine this time.

There are good and complete posts on the forum how to perform this upgrade as Blackfury provided.

    Cheers...

Thanks for all the input from everyone... I have decided to order the module and at the same time grab a cheap dongle...

This way I can run off the dongle until the "new" wears off the notebook... At that point I'll tear into it and install the module...

    Thanks...
