The internal CD drive of the laptop has failed and I purchased a new external USB CD drive.

I need to be able to boot from it, to install Windows and for restore from backup purposes.

I went into BIOS and set the drive as first boot option.

I was able to boot from it once and now I can't anymore. The laptop goes directly to the HDD.

    Gateway support is useless.

    Please advise. Thanks.

    Thanks for responding.

Turns out that the problem was a faulty USB connector. When I moved the drive to another, I could boot from the drive.
