I am completely comfortable with breaking down my 7811FX as I have extensive experience in building/tearing down desktops and the sticky guide here is awesome.
I recently bought a T9900 to replace my stock cpu and am just looking for advice when it comes to the Heatsink/TIM/CPU itself. Any recommendations from people who have already made the change? I am specifically looking for successful advice on thermal paste replacement from start to finish.
Thanks!

ICD7 is a very good alternative to the stock TIM. I've used it myself.

ICD7 is the best with AS5 being very good also and easy to find. -
I use AS5 for all my builds and always have some lying around.
Some advice though, breaking down a notebook is nothing like breaking down a desktop, the parts are a lot (emphasis on 'a lot') smaller. Plenty of desktop building experience and have broken down plenty of notebooks and I do not prefer the latter (wait till you get to putting bluetooth into your notebook). Luckily you don't need to break the whole thing down, everything you need is accessible through the bay door at the bottom. You will want a nice sharp small head phillips head screwdriver with a nice big handle for lots of grip since the heatsink screw can be a pain to get off. ALSO, DO NOT TOUCH THE CHIPSET TIM, PAIN TO REPLACE! -
Any suggestions on bios version? Currently I'm running .08 - would just stay here if it'll work with the T9900 but I'm not sure.

replacing the cpu on these are much easier than any desktop.
so no worries there, as to bios - dont fix if it aint broken. try the T9900 on the 0.8 if it works (it will, me thinks) forget about it and enjoy, if not look for one of e-wrecked bios threads... -

v.17 has some sort of tweak that utilizes the L2 cache better, hence all around snappier with the 6MB vs the 3MB.
FYI, 3DMark 06 I went from 8005 to 9532 upgrading from the P8400 to the T9900, w00t!
Bought T9900 and looking for some help on install
