Is it a good idea to bring this laptop on a trip or is it gonna be a burden? We have a 2hour drive to a hotel, then we are spending the night there and then the next day we are taking a plane. Im just wondering is it easy to play games on the plane or is it too bump? Am I going to have to be extra careful with it or is it built well enough to withstand a few hard hits here and there? Also, will they let me carry it to the plane or are they going to toss it in the cargo?

One problem that your going to have is that when your on battery, powermizer downclocks your GPU to save battery and as a result, games don't play as well. Even games such as World of Warcraft get their FPS cut in half because of it, so don't plan on playing anything too graphics intensive.

There are programs that can disable powermizer. I haven't looked into it because I'm always hooked up to an outlet, whether it be in a RV or at home. Plus, my Macbook is my laptop that goes places with me.

No airline should have to force a laptop to enter cargo. If they do, they would be liable for any damage to the laptop if you did not consent to placing it in cargo in the first place.

Playing games on the plane though depends on how much seating space you have. I've only ever brought my laptop on plane trips and just placed it in the overhead compartments. Too much of a hassle to take it out of my backpack. :p

They do have power outlets on the plane but you got to buy a dc adapter to plug it into the plane since its always DC power outlets on aircrafts which means ur AC adapter cant be plugged in. To be on the safe side always ask the cabin crew b4 plugging it in.

    This may be obvious...

You can't play WoW, AoC, or simillar on-line games on the plane... no radios allowed! Don't forget to move that big, ugly switch on the front of your laptop to "off". I suppose you could connect to the planes data connection (if available) at whatever they charge (go into debt for life?)....

A 15.4" was hassle enough on long plane rides. Now I just use a video iPod and watch movies, listen to audiobooks, etc. I would imagine a 17" laptop would be next to impossible to maneuver on a tray table without having empty seats next to you.

Playing games in the waiting area at the airport works fine as long as there is an available AC connection. There is generally a free/low cost wifi connection available, or you can tether to your 3G phone. If you will be traveling through multiple airports over multiple days in a row, opt for the weekly/monthly wifi data plan. It costs a bit more, but it's less per day.

    Just my $0.02 YMMV
