When i first got the computer i tried out the built in mic on the web camera. Then after a restart it dosen't work anymore. It detects the microphone as disconnected in sound properties.

    1) Right click the volume control icon in the icon tray on the bottom right.
    2) Click Recording Devices.
    3) This might not be required, but if you don't see Microphone, right click in the center of the recording devices box and make sure both "Show Disconnected Devices" and "Show Disabled Devices" are checked off.
    4) Right click on Microphone.
    5) If its disabled, It'll say Enable in the right click menu. Click it.
    6) If/when its Enabled, go to Properties on it and go to Levels. Make sure they're up and not muted/down.

    Any of that work..?

Erm I've never heard of that...
Maybe it means what it seems like it means... A wire possibly came unplugged on the inside..?

You've got 2 microphones there, I believe - 3.5 front panel and riser analog jack.

Just make sure to make your riser analog jack default mic for the system. It's gonna work for some time. Then you'll have to reboot :))))))))))))

I checked google with this problem - it seems the Conexant 221 thing has pretty big hardware compatibility issues with Vista resulting in such hemorrhoid for the user...

I'd check if it's configured to be disabled when on battery mode...
