If you really want the WUXGA screen that badly, I suggest going back and seeing if the display copy has it. If you play your cards right, you may be able to convince them to take yours back and give that one to you. That's essentially what I did, but I planned it ahead of time.

It also helps to have an "in" at the best buy. Perhaps a friend or family member to help get your foot in easier. I know a few people on my local BB's staff and it actually made me start going there cause I got good service and if something broke or failed it was really easy to get things set straight
If all else fails, just set everything else to ridiculously high when you game. Sure your resolution is lower but you can probably run max AA and other settings at that resolution. -

If you didn't want the 1400x900 you should have looked at the numbers on the box. There's a thread in here that tells which # is which for 1400x900 and 1900x1200..

1440x900 is the better res IMO, native res will never be a problem for games.
-
Also the angle viewing is not that good, have to fuss with it.
I wanted 17" for movies, but now am wondering what other laptop to get?
Alienware is too expensive. -
i went from a 1440 to 1920 resolution. trust me there is a big difference. better viewing angles when you play games n definitely movies.
-
with 1900 you'll have to bump up your font size and stuff unless you're right on top of the screen. I have a laptop with each, and the 1440x900 is perfect for everything when you're sitting back with a keyboard. However, the 1900x1200 is a better quality screen for games and movies.
One compromise is to go get a really good 24" 1900x1200 screen, or a 22" 1900x1080. A 17" is a small screen no matter what you use it for. I just switched to a 25.5" and put it about 2 1/2 feet away, and it is awesome for everything -
I actually agree that 1440x900 was the "better" resolution here. There are 4 main possible resolutions that a 17" screen may be. They are 1280x800 (WXGA), 1440x900 (WXGA+), 1680x1050, and 1920x1200 (WUXGA). I found that the middle 2 were about perfect. The WUXGA is way too big and the stuff becomes way too small. If you need to run something at lower than native resolution you can get a "blurry" or "fuzzy" picture as the lcd screen or card attempts to interpolate the input so that it fits properly. On the other hand the 1280x800 was too small for most tasks. 1920x1200 resolution is best suited for 19" or higher screens.
The way I look at it is the 1440x900 is perfect for portable use and if I absolutely must use a higher resolution then I can always hook it up to my 30" HDTV. My friend has a 22" widescreen that we hooked it up to last night. -
The manager said tough basically and theres nothing they can do "Call Gateway"
So Instead..
I called corporate and talked to a district manager.
She called up the best buy and told them to give me the display in return for my machine for a even exchange.
Even though the laptop does state "1440 X 900" on it, the display proves differently, and most times you can use that as the "technicality" you need.
I'm the Technology Manager at Office Depot, if I have a machine on display that's different then what you got.. we'll either find the right one, or give you the display.. and address the issue so it won't happen again.
As far as the 1440 VS 1920 Goes.. The 1920 is amazing. -
Heh. Too bad I'm not willing to go that far. My local bestbuy also had one displaying that was using a WUXGA screen.
-
I had the higher res first and exchanged it for the lower res.
1440x900 is absolutely perfect size for portable use and I have a very nice 22" LCD and 56" DLP for movies and gaming. -
