Money is no object since the 7801-u is within my price range ,but at the same time I don't want to abandon a fully functional 6860 that even in its outdated status is more powerful than 90% of laptops out there.

If I were you id just stick with the 6860 and upgrade to a T9300... probably very little difference from the 7801-u... then again if money is no object then go for the 7801-u.... I personally am gonna hold off till next year and see what major advancements are made

I've thought about it, and there really isn't a significant performance gain to be had worth going through the trouble for. The 9800 is basically an overclocked 8800, and my processor is better then what comes stock with the 7801. And as for the 1 gig of Gpu mem, it's basically a sales gimmick. My 6860 has been extremely good to me, though i will be holding out for something better with t3rr0r. Maybe that new msi notebook.

I used to have a 6831fx. Recently got the 7805u.
Screen is awesome for movies such as Dark Knight.
Applications run flawless.
Games are even better.
Get one of the 7805u 7801u and upgrade the cpu later. -
I'm staying with my 6860 for now. I'll see what happens in the next 6 months to a year. I found excellent deals on eBay when I first purchased my 6860 (1680x1050 and T9300 for around $350 total), so I'm not hurting for performance. With the new low price on PATA (IDE) Blu-Ray drives, it's hard to beat the 6860 (for the time being).

I'd just wait until Win7 is included with the computer. May have to wait till the end of the year or so.
-
But im gonna wait and see... -

I think that I am probably going to just wait about six months or so and then look at what is available and I'll probably buy a faster, sub-$200 CPU off of eBay to hold me over till then.
BTW, the Toshiba Qosimo x305-q706 is really, really tempting

I would wait. The 78xx series are good laptops, but they arent actually an upgrade as far as i'm concerned. Same basic tick of the computer worlds clock.
Wait until at least Nehelam is released for laptops and then decide what to do. Native quad cores and "actual" next generation video cards will start to be released then so almost overnight the laptop world will change. Another cool thing is that SSD's will be getting cheaper and cheaper (and better and bigger) so those might hit good priced mass market use in another year. And the 6860 +stock or t9300ish CPU will easily hold its own until then
Buy 7801-u or upgrade 6860?
