Buy P-7915u now or wait 'til summer?

Hi All,

I've a budget of about $USD 1,200 and I'm looking to buy a new rig that can handle some gaming. I'm pretty well settled on the Gateway P-Series (can't beat the value) but I can't decide whether to purchase the P-7915u this Christmas or wait until the summer (when I have a birthday) and buy then. I'm not fussed about waiting as my current laptop will certainly last until then. Does anyone know what's in store for the P-series in the next 6 months? My logic is that in 6 months time I'll be able to get even better components for better value because of the way that less money tends to get you more if you wait a bit. But if this model is going to be discontinued (like the P-7811) then perhaps I should launch in now.

Can anyone shed any light?

 

Honestly you can wait until the end of time and something better/cheaper will come out 6 months later. If you dont need a new computer now then you can wait but if you need something now, its pretty much always a good idea to buy when you need it.

in 6 months... theres no telling whats going to be in the FX. More than likely it will have an arrendale CPU and one of the 300 series nvidia cards, but that is by no means guarenteed. And ther is no telling if it will be cheaper either. The 78xx series were more expensive than the 68xx series until the last offering so you might have a more expensive computer than is currently offered (but again there is no guarentee)

The best bet is to set yourself a goal when buying computers. Either buy a new one when your old one no longer prefroms to your requirements or buy on a time table.
I buy a new system every 2 years (falling in with Intels tick tock cycle) weither or not i really need one. But it keeps me current on the tech and i'm never more than a generation or so behind the times.

Do I buy now or will the price of the 7915u come down in a couple weeks?
I am on pins and needles wondering what to do fearing if I order it now, it will be cheaper soon after.

 

There will probably be a 100 dollar off sale eventually, but thats usually it until there are refurb models available or its at an End of Life stage.

I've never found 100 dollars off to be worth the hassle of waiting for a sale when you're already looking to buy a 1K plus item

 

These models will probably stay around, then get discounted, then no models at all, then new ones in the fall, which will either be slightly upgraded, or brand new ones, but expensive. You won't get the new hardware for this price until more than half a year after it launches.
