another reason why it would be great about to make a sticky about What we can and can't do?

i think it goes up 2 t9300. if you go higher it will downclock the fsb. so u would be wasting money. I THINK.

t9300 is the CPU your looking for... unless you just want to waste money and you can get the t9500 (not recommended as you can get an Extreme CPU for about the same cost)

It would make a pretty big difference.

The t9400 is a Motivena chip which isn't compatible with your 6831's platform.

So even if your friend wanted to sell it for cheap it would be a waste of money because it wouldn't work in your system.

The Big 4 that the 68xx series upgrades to are the t8300, t9300, x7800, x9000 (in order from least to most powerful)
There are other chips that will work for the systems but largely they are a waste of effort to go after, or are simply to expensive to be worth it (the t9500 is a prime example)

no he didn't x7900 is a waste of money. same cache as x7800 and just 200Mhz faster, you can overclock the x7800 to the same speed without spending the extra money on the x7900.

    Yeah what BigHops323 said.

We're pretty prejudiced against the x7900 around here. (ignore the Alabama location in profile :p ) Its about the same as the t9500 largely a waste of time and money

I accept saved money as a form of payment :D

    ...please

    :p

But no worries that's why were here.

that is a way to go. But you aren't going to be getting a HUGE bump in power over the 6831. Only the guys with the x9100 in the p7811-FX have a more powerful gateway than my 6860. And even then they only have me by 60Hz and about 4-6% on the GPU side. So largely its not worth the hassle of going through the destruction process.

Wait for Nehelem...then it will be worth it :)
