im gonna buy the new gateway gaming laptop thats coming out in the 14th at bestbuy. The laptop is great and all but i find the cpu rather lower than my expectation(2.26 duo core). Im new in buying laptops so my question is right after i buy that lappy can i upgrade the cpu to maybe 2.53 right there at best buy? and how much would it cost?Or should i just not upgrade?? Any advice would help also

stick with the CPU thats in there, that is by no means a slow CPU. Wait a few months if you are going to upgrade, you can then get the higher end stuff for a more reasonable price.

The CPU in the system stock should be pretty nice (and easily play most everything well) Though there are always upgrades you can do all the way up to the x9100 extreme CPU with overclocking goodness.

But the stock CPU should be really nice right out of the box.

As to Bestbuy upgrades... i dont think they sell CPU's (though i'm not sure...my local one doesnt)

Though i wouldnt pay anyone to do it. If the set up is even half as good as the other FX series then it will be a 10 minute job to do the upgrade yourself...and save you a bunch of money as well.

    Yup^

Def stick with what you got, no reason to upgrade really, and as Kamin said do not get someone to do it for you, its so easy.

I agree as well. That p8400 should kick a decent amount of @ss right away. Plus the jump from 2.25 to 2.53 is not a big one for the money you would spend to do the upgrade. Like the others said, see how you like it stock first and then if you want more power, upgrade at that time. :)

Bestbuy doesn't offer upgrades beyond adding more ram, and the 7811fx is capped at 4gb. The only thing you should get with your laptop might be a 1 year accidental warranty. I only recommend that because it includes a 1 battery failure replacement policy. The plan is like 40-50$ and the battery will more than likely start to show some ware within 1 year and a new one would probably be around the 100$ area.

Do they have 4gb DDR3 SODIMMS available yet?

The specs say PC6400 DDR3, but DDR3 doesn't come in PC6400, DDR3 starts at PC10600. So what gives?

Good call. Best Buy tends to screw up specs from time to time. I'd say this is one of those times.

I see. Also, I haven't seen any DDR3 SODIMMS for sale anywhere. Corsair doesn't even have any listed on their site. Do any exist yet in retail channels? And will they be available in 4GB versions?

If you are intending to upgrade CPU go for cache not mHz. Extra 100 mHz isn't worth the cost.

Can someone expand more on warranty options from BestBuy?

Which shows you just how reliable Gateway is for this sort of info. It's really 1066 RAM.

Until someone gets their hands on 2x4gb DDR3 laptop sticks, we won't know for sure.

EDIT: Micron is making some but they're not in production yet. http://www.micron.com/products/partdetail?part=MT16JSS51264HY-80B

No, first off the one year accidental does not cover battery replacement it ONLY covers ACCIDENTAL damage, not a battery, not hardware, not normal ware and tear, just accidental damage. Also the plan costs $99.99.

Also if you are going to spend money on a warranty (Performance Service Plan) purchase the three year accidental, it is just worth it. On the 7811 it is around $349.99 I think, but that's a three year guarantee on your product. All hardware, new battery, DC Jack (quickest to go), screen ($650 at least not including labor) and ACCIDENTAL. At my store we had a guy come in after getting back from Iraq, long story short he was marching, laptop fell out of backpack and was trampled, came to store in seven pieces and he walked out with a new laptop.

Why not just check with CPU-Z ?! Or the Modules will have a sticker on 'em.
