Under ACPI and Temperatures, there are two readings (TZS0 and TZS1). What are these? I just ran 3dMark06 and the Max Temp for the TZS0 is almost 100 degrees celsius! Should I be worried?

    ACPI Thermal Zones.

Yes you might look into this

what is the max temp on your cores ?
run hwmonitor on the background of the 3dmark loop.

make sure you don't block the ventilation on the bottom of the laptop, clean dust. might want to consider reapplying thermal grease on the cpu.

I was using a laptop cooler so there was no blockage. I got this after I had just installed an x7800. The temps on that were around 60 or so maxed, the same for the gpu.

So this is associated with the cpu? I just applied the thermal compound, but from what I understand you're saying I should open it back up, clean off the old thermal compound, and reapply?

EDIT: I should mention that the other number (TZS1) was absolutely fine- I think in the low 40s. I now have my laptop off and am awaiting help.

well try it without your laptop cooler and put something just under the battery to lift the laptop up about 3/4 of an inch. and see if you still get the high temps.

you can run TAT or orthos and see how it climbs in tandem with the cores temp.
so if your cores are not climbing over 60 or even 80 for that matter, no reason to reapply thermal grease.

i have an x7800, its hotter than the 5xxx & 9xxx cpus, you might want to consider not using the top frequency, test it.
see what frequency allows you an acceptable thermal level.

the limit on the core temp is 100c, as to tz0 i am not sure, google wasn't as helpful as i expected.
i did saw once or twice 100c on that tz0 and didn't like it one bit. my max core temp wasn't even close to that, same as yours so i am not sure what to make of it.

maybe its the north or south bridge sensors ?
anybody can shed some light here ?

Yeah, it's hard to fix the problem when I don't know what it is. It hasn't happened again, but I'm pretty nervous now.

I currently have the same exact issue. I tried very thin layer of AS-5, thick layer of AS-5, al most no AS-5 and still can not get the TSZ0 to go down when the GPU is overclocked. GPU temps are just fine, core CPU tems are below 60, even TZS1 is below 60 but TZS0 is at 98C. Once the computer goes to idle the TZS0 temp goes to 55 in 1 second. Any idea on how to fix this issue?

    Thanks
