I've been getting some conflicting information about whether the OEM Vista Home Premium 32 bit disk that came with my p-6831 has the right key to be used to install Vista 64 bit. The laptop came with 32 bit but I've read that the disk key works over both architectures. Some people say only the retail disk works for switching bit architectures and others say OEM is fine. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I'd like to get trustworthy info before I attempt to switch.

Hey I really appreciate the rapid response. I'll give it a try today and post if I find a quantitative performance boost, but I've gotta wait a bit for my extra gig of RAM.

Would you care to elaborate? were you able to get a 64 bit disc sent, or did you get a disc some other way and just use the OEM product key?

Sorry, I already had a retail 64 bit Vista Ultimate disc from my desktop build, I used that. You can't get a 64 disc for an OEM license that came with 32 bit.
