I recently purchased a Gateway NV7802u laptop to serve as both a laptop and desktop replacement. I'm using an external keyboard, mouse and monitor, and at night I issue a sleep command. When I want to wake it, I have not found a way to do this otehr than to pull out the laptop, open it and press a key. Is there a way to do this withough having to open it? Pressing a key on my external keyboard, or pressing the power button on the laptop don't do it.

    thanks,
    Luann

When the laptop is in sleep mode it powers down the input devices. I dont think you have another alternative here than to power it on.

mine wakes up when i hit a keyboard key or move the mouse. my lid setting is set to do nothing. i have hibernate shut off. before when i let it hibernate it wouldnt wake up. i just use sleep..im using windows 7 64 bit professional. oh and i have it set to not ask for a password when it wakes up.

i dont know if this helps you its just what im using and it wakes up by my external keyboard or wireless mouse movement. i do believe if you turn hibernation off it will help solve your problem. sleep and hibernate are not the same. what i think is happening is your putting it to sleep then short after its going into hibernation.

Though I have a Dell, I have the same situation that I'm trying to solve. I keep hearing about checking the Bios. How would Wake on LAN work? What action from the LAN would wake it up?

Network activities by other computers on the network. Which means it could wake any time if there is another computer accessing the same wifi connection.

Found out on how to wake up using usb mouse. Don't have usb keyboard to check if it works but i'm pretty sure it will. Go to device manager - mice or other pointing device (mouse in my case) - right click - properties - power management - allow this device to wake the computer (tick)

    Same applies for external keyboard.

Yup. That's the trick! Works great. I've just been leaving the LT in "sleep" (seems to use no more power than in hibernate) and it wakes right up when I wiggle the wireless mouse. Neat! I still say laptop makers should include an external power button that can be activated when needed!

OK, now that waking is old hat... I want to be able to turn the thing on from off (not sleep) without opening it. Sure would have been great if the LT makers included a recessed power switch on the outside of the thing. Maybe stick a pen in there to power it on? I'd LOVE that!

Or maybe something like a universal remote for both TV and PC esp if you are using HDMI.
