Why would you want to overclock an extreme processor? The extra 2 tenths of a gigahertz of power will do nothing and could potentially make your computer unstable. It's just my opinion but I think the X7800 is extreme enough with its factory settings. I could maybe see overclocking the processor that comes with the p series but really there is no need for it with the extreme ones.

A x7800 comes stock at 2.6ghz, and that is the selling point of a extreme processor is to overclock, dell, asus, they use that to sell pc's.

I made a thread on this the other day thread. I think it can from the couple of people i've found saying that they had one @3ghz, but i've ordered the processor now so if you wait a week or so i'll be able to update you and let you know for sure ;).

Actually, the x7800 is 2.8ghz stock. And while there probably isn't too huge of a boost to be had in bumping it up to 3ghz, I can't think of any reason not to do it except overheating if you're in an un-air conditioned environment. The Core2 line has exceptional overhead when it comes to overclocking, and if the BIOS allowed it, it would probably be stable at much higher speeds.

The X7900 is 2.8ghz stock not the x7800 (which 2.6ghz). From what i've seen (and assumed since i've bought a X7800) the Gateway FX allows an overclock of upto the 15x multi (i.e. 3ghz) on all X series intel chips.

Yep, I feel like a dumbass now. Guess I shouldn't be so matter-of-fact unless I do my research.

Got my X7800 for £140 delivered (and considering the UK is actually more expensive) even if you just do a straight conversion the it's only $280ish which seems like a good deal to me.
