Topic has most of my question. I was wondering if any other Canadian has had any luck with finding info about the p-7811 in their local retail stores, notably bestbuy. I visited my local BB and they couldn't give me any info, and I'm starting to wonder if it'll even be distributed in Canada. If that's the case, a quick hop across the border it is for me![]()
-
Im pretty sure it wont be sold in Canada
-
how can you be so sure?
-
Im just cool like that.
-
Mr._Kubelwagen More machine now than man
Well, I can't find it on the Canadian Best Buy website, so it doesn't look hopeful for us Canucks.
-
well maybe one of the stores listed under USA on the gateway website will ship to canada?
-
Where in Canada are u kuram ?
-
mississauga, in the GTA (greater toronto area)
ive been thinking, and I might just apply for a bestbuy credit card, drive down to the us, and buy the lappy there and come back. what id like to know is if a BB credit card from canada will work in the states. in the end though i dont think that leaves me enough time as i turn 18 on the 23rd, and by the time i actually get the credit card, il be in ottawa for university. -
we will get it after, we always do, tigerdirect?
-

-
called BB here and they cant give me any info's bout the 7811 ...
they do have the M-6864FX(website)
Intel Core 2 Duo T5750
4096MB DDR2
15.4"
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2600 Graphics
Native Screen Resolution 1280 x 800
Video Memory 512MB GDDR3
200GB 7200RPM -
in retail i couldn't find a single P line product from gateway, and tiger direct, if they do get it, will be a lil overpriced (the canadian prices are higher when compared to same model american, even including international shipping
)
The same day i get a store credit card approved, would that be the same day i apply for it? -
also forgot to mention, would a card i apply for and get approved for in canada work for american bestbuy's as well?
-
No clue with the card but Do yourself a favor and just drive to the states. U got Niagara an hour away and deroit three hours away. save yourself some money on taxes, shippin, duties, brokerage fees and just pick it up.
-
but then i still have to pay duties at the border? I'm just trying to find the most effecient way to get it, cost wise and time wise
-
No duty, unless u askfor it.
Just pay the cost which is $1449 + %8.5 at Buffalo or %6 in Detroit (i think) and that's it. Unpack it, don't bring it over nicely packed with receipt out in the open. Go in, come back few hours later, say u got nothing to declare and tat's it. If they for some reason ask u to step aside and check your car cuz u look like a drug trafficer or a terrorstthen just say it's your private property
If u wanna get it shipped from BB then dunno what to expect. U will pay canadan taxes on top of us taxes, border fees, maybe duty and shippin.
I'm thinkin it will b somewhere around $200 extra if u ship, maybe more.
I may b wrong don't base it on my response, but it's the most likely outcome -
i paid an extra 130 dollars in duty for my 6860, and it stung. i wasnt very happy i had to pay on top of the 8.5 % NY state sales tax, but i realized it was worth after turning on my new laptop and playing the latest games maxed out.
just bite the bullet, and declare. -
Yeah, do the right thing !!!!
Hey if u'r scared and don't wanna mess with the customs then just go ahead and order it online, easier.
If u'r scared they'll catch u, dump the box and just keep the laptop -
But yeah i wasn't planning to try and smuggle it accross, because I've been reading up on the etiquete of border crossing and it looks like they do take it seriously.
In the end, i know my dad's old friend from highschool, i think it's one of his best friends of all times, well he pretty much operates one of the bridges at the ontario-new york crossing, i forgot which bridge it is though. So i could always ask him for info.
edit: also noticed your taxes, they are a bit lower then here in ontario, so i could be saving money? -
If u declare it, u pay us taxes and ontario taxes
-
except i ment when i bought the laptop, but yeah in the end i imagine buying it in canada would ultimately be cheaper.
Edit: just found out my dad would rather use a payment plan over a year or whatever length instead of paying upfront, so unless the american bestbuys accept a payment plan from a canadian citizen in a retail store, i'd probably have to buy it via the internet.
Has anyone found a website that will ship it to canada?
another edit: i realised that some websites may be waiting for the actual release date to post it on their websites, so i guess i wont be sleeping tonight in order to find it
Hopefully tigerdirect will stock it, cause even the american tigerdirect will ship to canada.
actually scratch that, canada isn't in the dropdown menu under billing info when i go to checkout... -
Unfortunately the 7811 is a Best Buy exclusive. You're not likely to find it being sold retail anywhere else. I'm sure, however, there will be several on fleabay and possibly on Amazon from resellers who managed to get their hands on a few.
-
I just found out about this and I can't believe that us Canadians dont have a proper way of getting this laptop.
-
1. There is NO duty on computer hardware!
2. In Ontario, you will pay GST & PST on the cost of the laptop (i.e. $1450), not tax on top of tax and shipping. You don't need a receipt but that would help!
If you don't want to pay the sales tax which is about $188.50 CAD, do the following.
1. Throw away the packaging, manuals, and extras like cables and mouse. Don't forget about throwing away the receipt! If you absolutely need it, you should just mail it back home!
2. Bring CDs with you and install games and other applications on your laptop to show your laptop has been used (if they boot it up). Afterward, dispose of these CDs.
3. Bring a laptop bag with you to put your laptop in! It doesn't make sense that someone would bring a laptop with them without a bag to protect it!
4. Tell them you brought your laptop with you (i.e. it's part of your personal belongings). Technically, you're supposed to register your personal belongings with Canada Customs (CBSA) before leaving Canada but if they ask you about this, just play dumb! It's perfectly okay to say "I didn't know".
5. After you clear customs, make sure you go inside and get a registration card for your laptop. You fill out a green card (i.e. Gateway laptop and the serial number). Then, the agent will sign and stamp the card. Whenever you are asked what you are bring back home, tell them you have a laptop and show them the "declaration card" and you won't get hassled!
Don't forget their main job (besides collecting taxes) is to prevent terrorism and criminals, contraband, and illegal weapons from crossing the border.

either get back on topic or close the thread. trying to swindle the CBSA isnt an issue or topic in these forums.
-
The others are "useless information" because i don't want to **** with customs -
-

-
-
Yeah, the only way of getting this laptop is to buy it from Best Buy in the US
-
...or get me to buy it for you and ship it for only 6 million dollars! PM me to get the PayPal transfer started.
-
-
Your breakin my balls here, Chaos! But after a long thought process, I'll do it for 4.8 million, but not a penny less! I'm already taking a huge loss!
-
-
I went to USA to day to get mine. 200$ more for custom fee
-
Yeah I bought 6860, waitin for it to b delivered today and $216 for taxes and broker charge on top of $1000 laptop
-
Would the P-7811 fall under NAFTA?
-
I'm 99% sure it's not made in the US or Canada.
-
Does Canada even have electricity?
-
-
ahh but does it say so anywhere on the chasis?
-
-
ahhh ****, hmmmm i still hope i dont have to pay too much lol
maybe it was assembled in the us? lol -
-
-
Wow! Impressive! Irregular electricity and your Government STILL manages to look out after the general population with mandates such as free health care. IR the jealous.
-
that and they support the seal hunt!
-
Thats what its all about anyway. The seals. Not to mention Canada has a ministry for everything, which is uber cool. I wanna see a Ministry of Toilet Tissue Awareness.
Can any Canadians find info about the P-7811
