Hello all. I have a 7805u that I purchased new about 2 1/2 years ago and have been the only owner. I have upgraded to a Blu ray drive, to 8 GB of Ram and applied every update for WIndows and software I could. Now, I have repeatedly tried to update my bios (im still at 9c.17.00, 12/16/2008) and keep getting the error: driver (wdm) Init Fail (DX 137) :( I downloaded the update from Gateways site. Now I haven't had any issues with my laptop, in actuality it has been a reliable workhorse and was wondering if I should bother even updating the Bios? If so, is there another method of updating it? I followed the instructions that I downloaded with the file from Gateways site. Any suggestions? Also, I downloaded the most recent Nvidia driver (280.26) and my notebook has been running a little hotter than usual, but not hot enough to shut down. Any suggestions on that?

    yeah what TreeTops said.

    I'm on 9C17 too with a X9100, Intel X-25 and Blu-Ray upgrade. Works fine.

I figured as such. Not gonna mess with it then since it hasn't given me any problems. Thanks!

dont update your bios to version that they provide on their website. I did it and now the temperatures are messing up. GPU is 70C on idle, before that it was 40-47C on idle.

9c.23.00 is supposed to raise the IDLE on the GPU temps. The bios is compliant with NVidia and it solder issue by keeping the GPU in a limited temp opperating range. This will slow the solder degradtion but on systems that do have this issue it will eventually still happen.

The 9800m GTS is supposed to have been done after the fix was implimineted. It was again supposed to be right after the fix so Fateway is probably siding on the side of caution as this fix is also supposed to not effect the proper solder at all.

If you sleep or hybernate with windows 7 you need the .23 version or have to run the 1394 legacy drivers to prevent hangup on reboot. Otherwise the .17 or under versions are just fine....................

I'm still on 9c.17.00 as well. No issues yet.
