how come, the 9800 GTS on this gateway laptop is only able to do about 7000 on 3d Mark 06 ???
I thought the 9800 GTS is only slightly slower then then 9800 GTX and would atleast give a low 9000 score ???
according to notebook check ... i think the 9800 GTS scored a good 9000 in 3d mark ???
Can someone please comment on this ???
Thank you

Oh, and I bought a Sager 9262 with 8800M GTX SLI. God knows why though, I was trying to move to a smaller laptop. -
where'd u see that notebook. can't find it anywhere
edit: alright googled it. seems like an enhanced european/asian version of the 7801. better processor (p8600) and bigger HD. -

Woah I didn't know there was this post in the Gateway forums.
Yes everyone, in case you didn't know, Gateway is finally returning to Singapore after 8 long years. Yes, it has 320GB dual drives @ 5400rpm.
I have a few questions about the Gateway P/FX series in mind as this is my first time handling them. It may also help to aid FallingCat's questions he/she has in mind;
(PS, I have searched around the forums thoroughly and I have not found any thread/post that answers my questions in mind.)
_______________
1. GPU Overclocking - How good is the overclockability of the 9800M GTS? I heard that the GPU is integrated/soldered/epoxied if I'm not mistaken?
2. Heat and Temperature - Following this, how is heat control like? If so, what kind of temperatures are usual and common for these FX/P series of Gateway notebooks? What is the maximum recorded temperature I can expect for both CPU and GPU? Are there any overheating issues?
3. Build Quality - What kind of materials/finishes does it use? Is there any form of Keyboard/chassis flex if light pressure is applied? The hinges, are they tight and secure and do not "wobble"?
4. Processor Support - I've seen guides that the processor can be upgraded - If I were the owner of this notebook, I'd like an X9100. Besides, I've seen someone else in this forum with an X9100. Can it be overclocked via BIOS? What kind of temperatures can I expect? Is it also possible to fit a QX9300 (Can the BIOS even recognize it)?
5. RAM support - Can these machines handle more than 4GB DDR3-1066 (say 8GB RAM)? I'm doing Photoshop and using VMware and I need at least 8GB minimum. My photoshop hits the 5.5 out of 6GB every time on my Inspiron 1720.
Thanks. I'll give you rep points if someone could answer them. -

1. i think this card is great on overclocking, but i have found that it is more driver related.
2. i don't have any overheating issues, all i do is prop up the back with a book, don't even need a cooler. My GPU temps rarely get above 70c even gaming for about two hours.
3. i think the build quality is fine and sturdy. My best friend just got a toshiba qosmio and he said he likes the build quality of mine more, that it doesn't feel as cheap as his.
4. there are bios versions out that support quad cores, but i don't believe we can overclock above 3.0 ghz or the motherboard won't recognize it or something, maybe someone can explain that better. I too would love to get the X9100 just waiting for that price to drop a little!
5. as far as the ram goes I'm not sure that it does support more as i have not personally tried it out, but i have read somewhere that it might so I'll have to look into that a little more.
Hope that helped! -
1. mind you the 1gb card unlikely to oc as good as 512mb one.
4. quad core not tested.
5. max ram not tested. -

Thanks very much guys! Appreciated. + rep'd. Are there anymore opinions that I should know about regarding the questions I have in mind?

1. Overclocking. Not bad. Varies from one to another but most are able to overclock up to 100MHz on all three clocks (core, memory, shader).
2. Heat/temp. There is no independant fan control. There is plenty of software for monitoring heat (like CPUID's HWMonitor). Most will raise the back of the laptop to ensure good airflow to the vents on the bottom of the laptop while gaming. The metal-mesh Rubbermaid laptop stand at Walmart is a good investment.
3. Build. There is some flex when opening the laptop. The hinges are quite sturdy. It's not bad for plastic.
4.Processor support - You can put a X9100 in it, but you can't OC past 3GHz. There is limited quad support with the right BIOS. Check this thread-> http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=315302
5.RAM support. Individual DDR3 4GB memory SO-DIMMs were likely not available when Gateway tested the initial config. In theory you should be able to put two in for a total of 8GB. I don't know if anyone has tried. -
