I am considering getting a 24 inch monitor, but I am scared that it might fry the gpu in my 7805 or maybe damage something else.

Does anybody have the 7805 (or any other model from the series) connected to a 24 inch monitor? How does it perform? Could I pull it off until I get a newer desktop?

How long have you had it going, will the darn thing die on me after some usage? Thinking about hooking up an ssd but might just wait for the prices to come down a bit, I hope..

I was using a 25" monitor for a long time. Played cod, HD movies...just about everything.
Make sure you go under your settings after plugging in the monitor so your laptop knows its putting out (that's what she said) to a big ole monitor.
Also, HDMI is the best way to plug it in.

I think they are pretty expensive but you can get 24" tilt monitors. Viewing websites in 1200x1920 sounds pretty sweet to me.

Otherwise look for 2ms latency over 5ms if you game, and from what I've heard the contrast ratio rating is a bunch of crap, but that isn't to say that some monitors won't have better contrast than others.

I've had my trusty p7805u attached through hdmi to my 42 inch sony bravia hdtv for almost 6 months now.

It's so nice to just set the laptop next to a huge tv and use an usb keyboard and mouse to play from across the room. FO3/L4D2/CoD black ops look STUNNING at 1920x1080 4x AA on this tv and the framerates I can pull out of this laptop are amazing.

I've been looking at other laptops lately but I can safely say my p7805u still does it's job extraordinarily well and I have no need to spend extra cash on upgrading to another newer laptop.

I did the exact same upgrade as you. Just bought a M11x for on the road but I still game at home on my 7805u with the same upgrades. It's been an outstanding laptop. I've never needed to overclock the gpu though.
