I am using vista 64. Have nvidia drivers from laptop2go. I set the audio to spdif and restarted computer and still no auido from hdmi. One thing i think it is, there is a unknown device called Location 1 (Internal High Definition Audio Bus).
I cannot find a driver for it, i assume it has something to do with the audio driver because gateway does not have a vista 64 audio driver for this laptop.

Anyone with vista 64 successfully had audio to output on hdmi?

Got it working. To my surprise the vista 32 audio drivers was able to install and a new HDMI spdif output was added to the playback devices.

I'm running vista 32bit, and I cant for the life of me get audio to go through hdmi. Drivers seem fine. Windows shows audio with the meters, but nothing comes out the tv speakers. Am I missing something else?

UPDATE: I uninstalled the high def audio device. rebooted...it autoinstalled again (gee thanks), but this time the install for the IDT sound drivers from gateways site completed successfully, and upon reboot, 2 digital outputs are in Playback devices. SPDIF and HDMI. Wonder where the SPDIF output is. Works great now. Hope this helps someone.

I reinstalled Vista from scratch so I didn't realize i needed a better sound driver because windows already installed it.
