There seem to be newer drivers from Lenovo which can be used for the Conexant High Definition SmartAudio 221 in the P-7805u (and others perhaps). Do not install them unless you're having problems, or are missing drivers since these are not actually intended for the 7805u. Lenovo is providing updates fairly regularly
Windows 7
Windows Vista/XP
You can also find these files by looking up the audio drivers for the Lenovo Thinkpad R400 /R500
The driver must be installed manually and the Smart Audio II program can be installed manually also.
Allowing Windows to update the driver automatically will overwrite the driver with the generic High Definition Audio driver from Microsoft, so try to avoid doing this.
When using Microsoft drivers, the headset and mic jacks show up separately from the built-in headset and mic and you have to restart programs to get them to switch between audio devices. When using Conexant SmartAudio 221 drivers, plugging in headphones mutes the built-in speakers and sends sound through the jack on-the-fly. I could never get the microphone jack working when using the generic Microsoft drivers.
Force the driver to install:
- Download and run the Conexant Audio Software .exe for your operating system to extract the drivers and application.
- Open Device manager and expand the Sound, video and game controllers section.
- Right click on Either the High Definition Audio Device if you have the generic Microsoft drivers, or the Conexant High Definition SmartAudio 221 if you have older Conexant drivers and choose "Update Driver Software..."
- Click Browse my computer for driver software, then click "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer"
- Click "Have Disk..." then Browse to the folder where the drivers were extracted, by default this is C:\DRIVERS\WIN\AUDIO\V64 for 64-bit Vista, C:\DRIVERS\WIN\AUDIO\V32 for 32-bit Vista and C:\DRIVERS\WIN\AUDIO\XP32 for 32-bit XP. Click OK.
- If there are multiple different Conexant Audio Devices available, you might have to do some trial and error to find out which one is best. The goal is to end up with a working microphone and SPDIF output in your playback devices as well as working speakers and headphones.
- Click Next, and you're done.
Install the SmartAudio II Application:
- Run C:\DRIVERS\WIN\AUDIO\SAII\Setup.exe
- Wait for installation to complate, there are no prompts and the installation just disappears.
- Access the SmartAudio II Application through Control Panel, or at C:\Program Files\CONEXANT\SAII

Great find. Will test them later.
Cheers, +rep.
By the way it does usually matter which one you choose when installing manually. If I remember rightly you had to choose the second item when manually installing the official drivers from Gateway. -
I just installed these drivers, but I'm having an issue with what seems like 'crackling sounds' when I'm not playing any sounds.

woot XP sound drivers for the 78xx series! Ima download and save them for when I move back up to a real gaming laptop. Thanks!
-
Any idea if there is stereo mix?
-
I think that Virtual Audio Cable has been used by others for this purpose. -
When I point to the driver folder, Winblows says no better driver found. Any suggestions? I would think the date would be the trigger. I suppose if I uninstalled the current.
So I tried to run the installer
-
-
Edit: You are correct and this is wrong.->see next comment.
Sure I am. How else would I arrive at the graphic in your post. That graphic comes directly from the "Have Disk" option. Although on Vista it is not "Have Disk"
-
No you're doing it wrong.
1) Click 'Browse my computer for driver software'
2) Click 'Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer'
3) Click 'Have Disk'
4) Click 'Browse'
5) Browse to the extracted driver directory -
Hot dog, that did it. Thanks. Now to see if the driver actually works.
Vista still tricks me up. (driver install is virtually the same in both)
Hey, cool ... I can plug in my earphones while something is playing and it switches automatically.
I was blaming Vista.
+rep to DHC014 for great find.
can't rep iaTa -
Does this work with XP 64? The Sound Drivers are the only thing holding me up from running XP64
I have the 7805U and want to run XP64 -
I won't argue but I have not (ever - never) run into anyone wanting XP64 over Vista64. I'm sure you have your reasons.
How's that for not answeringWould if I could. (answer that is)
-
Cant stand the driver signing in Vista64. But XP64 is pretty solid running cad also.
-
You do know you can turn driver signing off right?
Type 'cmd' into the start menu, right click cmd.exe and select 'run as administrator', type the following into the command prompt that appears and press enter:
bcdedit /set testsigning on -

iaTa, you are indeed a god of drivers

Should be there cadbob as I used it on multiple occasions. Another use is if you are going to image your HD for backup purposes you need to apply the following commands before making the image:
bcdedit /set {current} osdevice boot
bcdedit /set {current} device boot
bcdedit /set {bootmgr} device boot
bcdedit /set {memdiag} device boot
Otherwise once you've restored your image to a new HD Vista will not boot on a drive with a different serial number. -
Anyways does it not put pc into test mode? with test mode displayed in all four corners?
Or can I lod the unsigned driver in test mode then run it in normal mode?
By the way thanks for your help IATA -
On the other hand XP64 has more driver issues than Vista from what I hear. I never tried XP64 so have no personal experience.
The software I couldn't use was a couple old and odd programs so I didn't care but it is irritating. The user should be able to decide easily. -
It displays Test Mode in bottom right corner but you can remove it quite easily with a watermark remover.

I know ReadydriverPlus does about same thing also and runs in Boot.bin but this dang way MicroCrap is trying to make abother buck by selling driver certificates is a pain.
Could you post a link to all the newest drivers for the 7805U if its not to much trouble?
Thank You -
I took some more time to test these drivers and found that it actually DOES matter which model you choose from the list in step 6 (thanks iaTa).
Here are my results for 64-bit Vista:
- Everything works. (TPNCHERy)
- No SPDIF Interface Listed under Playback Devices. (TPMPHERy)
- No SPDIF Interface Listed under Playback Devices, Microphone Jack does not work. (TPKDCHIy)
- Everything works, but you are asked to restart the computer. (TPCMLWKy)
- No SPDIF Interface Listed under Playback Devices. (TPCAHERy)
For Vista, choose either the First, or the Fourth model on the list. This should be the same for both 32-bit and 64-bit Vista, but I cannot check which is best for XP. From what I can tell by looking at the .infs, the same two should work for XP. -
Here's a really, really important question.
Since Lenovo used a Conexant audio card in many laptop models that run Windows XP, do they also have XP32 laptops with Conexant webcams?
Because if they do, we may finally have an XP32 driver for the 68xx/78xx webcam microphone. And that would complete the XP32 driver set for these models -
I can't get these to work at all for XP.
-
Hmmm, wootage, interesting idea. Have you found a link for a chicony webcam for the ibm lenovo series?
Btw: using rancid's method of enabling sound, I can verify that using the webcam and using the mic port (next to the single usb port) on the right side works within skype...
I'll be testing the lenovo drivers soon. -
He all, I'm sorry if this is the wrong place to post this and i'm also sorry if this has been posted before. I did a quick search and didn't see it. Sorry, i'm also new
anyway i was following rancid's guide on how to get my P-7805u audio drivers working and i got them to work just like he said. but i didn't like the devcon text doc opening at start up.. so i messed with it a little bit and remembered seeing the nvidia whql video drivers having hdmi audio drivers so i thought i would try them out. I uninstalled rancid's driver totally and installed the nvidia drivers... the audio drivers didn't show up so i uninstalled them and installed rancid's again .. i got to step 6 on his guide and thought i would try the whql drivers again and the hdmi audio drivers did were selectable and after installing them and a quick reboot everything worked! no unknown hardware or devon popping up at startup, all i have is 3 unknown devices and the modem device ( witch i just disabled. ) Now everything works accept the 3 unknown devices, the modem, and the microphone.
Again I'm sorry if this post is in the wrong place or if this has already been talked about... just thought i might have found something and wanted to share it.
Thanks

stone me to death if im wrong but this will work with vista 64 right?tnx!
-
I do have the mic port working on my 6860, but I'm really interested in getting the webcam mic to work to avoid having to have a boom mic or headset. -
i too am getting a crackling sound when not listening to anything, i tried reinstalling em D:
-
I tested the drivers and apparently they're just an update. It wouldn't work with out the devcon restart. So I just reinstalled the old drivers. Oh well, maybe Windows 7 will put all this behind us...
Btw: has anyone been able to keep the volume control from constantly disappearing? I always have to go into the control panel and de-select and then select the "place volume icon in the taskbar" option. -
newer version out 4.92.13.0
so lot of revisions working fine for me.
Conexant SmartAudio 221 Driver v. 4.92.2.0/3.64.2.50 (4/13/09)
