I want to configure my headphone microphone plugged into the 1/8" jack. First, in XP there is an option to add dB gain to your mic, but don't see it in recording device properties.

But more importantly, it only recognizes the webcam microphone but not my headset one when plugged in. How do I activate this!?

    Thanks!

Oh man, this is frustrating. After a little bit of searching, I found that the best way to manage using your headphones and microphone is to uninstall the driver for the conexant audio, make sure you select the option to delete driver files, reboot, and use the default Microsoft ones that are detected on reboot (and reboot again).

Then you have to manually go into the sounds properties and deactivate the speakers to activate the headphones. Same with the microphones.

These drivers are totally porked. There's no reason headphones and mic can't automatically deactivate the integrated speakers and mic.

I guess it works, but so stupid.

yeah the mic on my 7811 was pretty messed up. it'll recognize the plugged in mic from the headphones but there is a one second latency delay on anything i say in game or on skype.

When i record music i plug in my external soundcard and the problem is solved and everything works just fine. It's sorta a hassle to use it for games though so my team and i have just gotten used to the one second delay.

I have a USB adapater that came with my Sennheiser headphones. I will probably just end up using that. It's unfortunate that this simple thing that is integrated 100% fine in even the cheapest of notebook PC's but Gateway gets it wrong in this otherwise fine machine.

I don't see them correcting it either. Wonder if it could be fixed by BIOS, driver, or combination? Probably just software considering the standard Microsoft driver works fine. But it still doesn't auto switch.

I think it might be a driver issue. I've had the sound in games just vanish on occasion. When I reinstalled my OS I didn't install the drivers on gateway. I'm just going with the default HD audio drivers Vista installed. So far no issue. Mic has worked w/o delay as well.

Does it auto-detect when you plug in your headphones with default drivers?

right click sound icon in taskbar, go to "recording devices" then highlight microphone by clicking it, then go to properties, then click the levels tab, and you'll see the microphone boost there, which is the equivalent
