I purchased the MX6428 (ML 37-2.0 MHz, 80 GB HD, 64 shared video memory & 1024 Memory). I'm confused on how much memory the system has. The bios indicate 1024, system info says 512, and dxdiag says 960. When I launch Gateway Help & Support on the system says 512. I called Gateway & the CS didn't seem real convincing that I had 1024 memory. He said that sometimes MS windows will show it incorrect and will display 512. He said that this is a glitch with windows. I was then asked if my media center displays 2005 MC & also 2004 MCenter, I said yes. Again he said that this is only a display problem. He ended the call saying I probably had 1024 and I could go to other sites that will display the system configuration. He didn’t give me any sites by name but said that they were out there.

The system is fast and I've enjoyed it so far. I just want to make sure I get what I paid for.

Have anyone else had this problem or heard of this? I have a couple more days for my 30-day return period. I would appreciate input ASAP.

I am pretty sure that this type of thing is not impossible.

My 7515 doesn't show 1024 in the bios. I looked into it and if I remember right it was either something to do with the RAM that was set aside for the Operating System or the Shared Memory with the video card or a combination of things like that.

*Edit* this talks about it a little:

Search for and download cpuid. That little app will tell you how much ram you have and identify the chip/chips installed.

agree with cpu-z. go to liek sdp or something its one of the tabs and it shows you what is installed in each slot. best way to see w/o opening it up. I keep it on my flash drive at work so when someone wants us to upgrade the ram I can see the arrangement w/o opening up the cover.

I downloaded cpu-z. The memory is 1024, the SPD tab displayed slot 1 & 2 as 512 each, each with a different serial number.

    THANKS for the Info!!!!!!!!!!!!
