I'm considering selling my 7805u since I recently built a PC. How can I restore the factory defaults such that it will be ready for username and password settings input upon first boot when the buyer gets it? I have already made the factory defaults dvd and used it to restore the system. However, can I simply power off the machine when the first boot comes up asking for the username and password? Will that damage the system in anyway? Otherwise, I'm guessing the buyer will have to use the recovery dvd again to add their own username and password?

It should have formatted the entire disc and wiped out all your old info, unless you chose the restore option that saves your old files and settings.
I have a bootable disc that came with one of my Seagate hard drives that will write zeroes to the entire drive. You might run something like that and then do a factory restore if you're super paranoid about your data.
No, turning the machine off while it's setting itself up for the first boot won't hurt it. But to be safe, i would wait until a point when the hard drive is not writing anything to the disc before turning it off, just to be safe. -
You can always just use any freeware format program that does multiple overwrites of the disc and then just prep a clean Vista Install or even just send the CD with a formatted drive.

Thanks guys.
Prior to recovery, I had already used the free version of Active Killdisk to zero single-pass the main data partition leaving the 10GB recovery partition untouched even though I've already made the recovery, drivers, and apps discs. I've read somewhere that zeroing it once is plenty secure so hopefully I can leave it be. Regarding the recovery, I did it again. After the recovery process was finished with the second disc, it ejected the dvd and prompted to restart. I did so and hit F10 to open the boot menu and turned it off at that point. After booting it up again, it went through the initial setup process as normal so it looks like I found the point to turn it off before I ship it.
Considering selling 7805u, how to reset to defaults, username and password input ready?
