Hey Gateway guys
I need a machine for college this fall. I am doing architecture and need something with a good GPU for modeling and a good CPU for CAD. I can spend no more than $1500.
I am thinking of the Gateway P172SFX because my other two options (Inspiron 1720, Lenovo T61p) have glaring weaknesses like unusable screens or weak GPUs.
The only downside for me on this machine is the resolution, which is 1440x900. This is pretty weak IMO. However it's in budget and the specs are great for the price. Any thoughts on this? I can't find any reviews of this laptop online.

I have been researching this laptop myself and am thinking of purchasing one myself. There is alot of info on this site about this laptop and the Gateway P series. I found this review which gives a little info on the $1900 version wich will give you an idea.

I was looking to spend about 900 -1000 but think spendin the extra couple hundred for a laptop with such great specs will be very beneficial. I have read somewhere the only other laptops offering this graphics card starts at around $2000 which I am no where near ready to spend. $1300 was more than what I wanted but definetely worth every penny. -
You may want to look at the Best Buy model, I have three different models of these and the P-6080 fx is very nice for the money.
