So I'm gettin my 7805/1u this Friday. I'm goin from xp 32 to vista 64. However.. I don't know much bout vista. I know I should get rid of them programs. Would yall recommend a fresh install or using pcdecrapifier to get rid of the gateway bloatware?

My other question is.. what changes do yall recommend I make to the OS to optimize performance.. such as misc services. Just any general tips that I can utilize to optimize my OS. And if someone wants to confirm the dimensions of their 78xx lid, Id appreciate it.Thanx in advance. Take care.

I would recommend a fresh install, yeah. As for OS optimizations, I would go here. I would also go into your power options, and set it so that the hard drive never turns off, even when idling for a while. This caused problems for me when I installed a second drive, and for another person as well (we had the 7811 though). I turn off the aero interface and all those fancy bells and whistles as well, but that's not necessary. If you don't do a fresh install, then at least get rid of BigFix, or whatever it's called. But yeah, I would just do what blackviper says, as he's the expert on this. Except don't disable system restore.

    And turn off your screensaver.

    "And turn off your screensaver."

    Why?

It makes pretty colors on the screen.

Oh, not only BigFix but also Adobe Reader. If you need a pdf reader, Foxit Reader is just as good and only uses resources when you are using it.

I killed system restore. Pretty useless in my implementation.

The system restore has saved me a few times. If you know what your doing, get rid of it, but if you're not 100% confident, then keep it.

And I take a staunch anti-screensaver stance for many reasons, the biggest being that the default screensaver almost fried my 7811l.
