I saw this and was wondering if someone can contact them to see if we give them a copy of our bios from the P-6831FX/P-6860FX/P-171FX/P-172FX series and see if they can customize it where we can overclock the CPU and GPU. It would void the warranty, but then you could always flash it back to the original one. I would guess we would have to have a minimum amount of people purchase it. God Bless![]()

sent these people an email and waiting to see what they say.
-
yes im sure they would be high on they're horses to help us void our warrenties....good luck guys

i read the bios chip thing they said. would that have to be soldered on?i'd rather try getting gateway to make a new bios for us, but i doubt that would happen
-
no, not all... now a days they would just download a copy of your bios, then edit it, then send it back...if thats what they we're willing to do.
really. i dont even need them. just someone with an un altered version of the bios. now someone had a copy of the p-6831fx bios, but it's been corrupted so i cant use it to flash mine. once i get a working copy of one, it should be fairly easy to go in and make the changes i want then flash and be done.... -
I'd LOVE to have a more complete BIOS. The BIOS is really the only thing about this lappy that I dislike. No chipset options. Very few advanced options. The memory hole remap option is NOT even available, so we can't fully utilize 4GBs with Vista 32bit.

Ok got a reply back from the BIOSMAN, and they say since this is a Manufacture BIOS they will not be able to modify it. However they mention that there is a *chance* that the bios from my MSI GX600 will work on the Gateway gaming laptops if they use the same Chipset, meaning the Northbridge, Southbridge and Super I/O chip. They mention that this program may help us see if they are the same chipset:

I will download it and run it against my MSI GX600 tonight and will post my results. If someone else can run the program on their Gateway Gaming notebook and post their results. God Bless -
how much of a *chance* are we talking about?
-
Well if they match all we would need is a brave person to try it out. You tell me how to extract my BIOS from my MSI GX600 and I can email it to someone that is willing to try it. Hope this helps. God Bless -
Can't you flash 8800m gts bios for OC?
-
if i could extract mine, i can reflash it..... but the problem is...i can't extract itit comes out 1072kb and not 1024kb
yours should be easy enough.... just act like your going to flash it, but just click backup instead of backup and flash. and hopefully it will allow you to save it in rom or binary form..... the file size has to be 1024kb and not 1072kb. some will come out 1072 or something like that and that's not the correct size. -
(speculation of course)
1: extract oprom2.rom file from your bios file using 6000 *cough*dollar *cough* pheonix *cough* bios editor pro *cough*
2: change clocks using nibtor 4.0
3: import oprom2.rom back in to bios.rom file
4: flash your computer bios with said bios.rom file
5: reboot with new vga clocks
now i have heard people trying nvflash...not sure if that worked for them or not, but this is how we had to flash the 8600m gs cards. -
yea i was talking about nvflash, since it worked for mine, and gtx and gts are basically same core, I don't see why it can't happen. just copy the stock bios and edit it with nibtor
-
Good luck though -
yeah, narsnail was the one that tried it (nvflash)
and sager has a real bios, while gateway doesn't
the way i have mentioned will work, but i can't seem to get a copy of my bios.
