I remember a thread about laptop coolers, and someone asked about people making their own.

Here's a quick one I just made, took about 1/2 hour.

    Materials used:
-(2) Antec 3 Speed Blue Neon PC Fans 80MM
-Bottom piece of a Xmod case
    -Black cord concealer
    -Black tape
    -Hot Glue
    -12V 400MA DC Power supply

Here's 2 temp readings, with pc at idle. (Both fans set to MEDIUM Speed)

Dam thats pretty cool, how much did it cost you to make that, and does having the LED's feel off your laptops power source?

It seems too complicated for me to make like that so I'm probably gonna just buy one online. Would anyone happen to know of some that's compatible with the 7805?

I'm running it off a 12V DC Power pack, from the wall.

I could make it run off usb, but I don't plan on traveling.

In all, it cost me $10 to build, with parts.

Im curious why you decided on that fan alignment. On the P78** the CPU and GPU fans are aligned near the top on both sides. Your fans seem to be aligned on the top and bottom near the middle. You need to test for max temps under load, idle temps can fluctuate easily.

Here's the performance of the cooler under a heavy load.

Also keep in mind, the fans are on medium settings.. High makes a big difference in air movement, but is also loud.

Tomorrow I'm going to run a test with the fans on HIGH, see if it makes any difference.

yeah if u undervolt u will see a good difference in temps specifically the cpu.....and if u apply ICD7 in the gpu and cpu u will see at least a 5c drop or more if applied right.....nice cooler

I'm way to lazy to apply the ICD7.

I might get around to undervolting eventually.

At least put it on the CPU and NB, it's very easy, takes less than 10 minutes.

Stupid question, and I already tried to search google with little to no luck.

But where did you get the xmod case?

    From a xmod?

I had over 100 cases, and xmods at one time.

Radio Shack used to sell them.

well i pimped out my Cryo LX today with 3x scythe s-flex 1600rpm fans. Air flow is much improved but they still seem underpowered despite being run at 12V (1250mA).

Well, you do have 3 of them.. might need around 1 amp.

Check the power rating of the fans.

Quick question, which fan is blowing and/or which is sucking?

I'm guessing the GPU located fan is blowing and the HDD located fan is sucking.

the stock fans (as well as the scythe s-flex fans that i replaced them with) are both able to handle 12v max. being pumped through them and are rated with a 200mA power draw each

3x200mA= 600mA; which should be more than enough for my 1250mA AC wall adapter to handle even though I personally think that the fans are still being underpowered - probably due to my paranoia that i fried the circuit board when i connected the USB to USB connection and touched the metal casing of the LX which caused the middle stock fan to start smoking and a strong smell of burning ensued. As a precaution, i therefore replaced all stock fans with the Scythe S-flex fans.

I dont have pictures of my mod but wasupdog already has pictures from his modding of the Cryo LX:-

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=391310

Mine is exactly the same with the exception of the middle fan (Wasupdog's Antec Tricool) being a Scythe S-Flex too. I didnt use a cable-tie either so some the wiring to the fans can be seen through the grill whereas wasupdog has neatly hidden all his away with the use of a cable-tie.

The Cryo LX is very easy to take apart and mod. When my replacement circuit board arrives from NXZT, I probably use a cable-tie.
