Hi all! Long-time reader first-time poster.
I'm the not-entirely-proud owner of a 3-year old MX6445 laptop. It still has the original 1GB (2-512MB sticks) of RAM, but I can't even say that I have 1GB of RAM because 128MB of it is eaten away by the video card.
It's time for a change. It takes 10 seconds to ALT+TAB out of WoW to answer an IM and I don't even think about running an antivirus scan while doing ANYTHING else.
The memory that came with the laptop is DDR PC-2700 SODIMM. Is it possible or feasible to upgrade to a higher quality DDR or even a lowish quality DDR2? How high can I go with this model lappy, or am I stuck buying two 1GB sticks of PC-2700? (Here's a rule of thumb: two brand new piles of crap still amounts to a hill of dung!)
Thanks for reading and I hope someone can give me a hand!

You cannot use DDR2, it will not fit.
As for the RAM allocation, you have a shared video card. Shared video cards do not always take up 128MB. Unless you are playing games, it is going to only take up about 8-16MB total.
You probably need to clean out your system and reinstall the OS, then it will run a fair bit faster. -
As I said in my post, I play WoW and it jerks horribly. I'll try reinstalling the OS, but i just did that 6 months ago. Thanks for the info though. Looks like I'll be shelling out cash for two DDR (bleh) sticks.

If you do, get 2GB of RAM!
You might also want to clean out the notebook's dust and what not (see the Cooling Guide). It might be overheating, which would slow it down.
Also, depending on how well you take care of the OS (no offense!) it might be "old" at 6 months of age...
DDR/DDR2 Memory upgrade for an MX6445?
