so im running windows xp pro 32 bit and ive been trying to burn stuff with nero 6 and 7, but it keeps failing.... so now i feel like updating the dvd firmware but cant find it anywhere. HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-T50F is my model

Typically OEM drives don't get a lot of firmware support. Try some different discs and software. ImgBurn and CDBurnerXP are free and work well for the basics. What happens when it fails?
-
well ill try that but, does anyone know where i can get a newer firmware? the dvd drive seems a tad slow haha
-
That's really odd, I've never had an issue with it. There isn't likely to be a firmware update unless a media comes out and Gateway will need to update the firmware to read the new media.
Have you updated the Intel matrix manager drivers? I'm assuming its gotta do something with the data not being sent correctly to the RAM or drive itself.
Edit: I have exactly the same model; fyi. -
ive updated the matrix still no go, but when i used roxio 2009 it worked =], i guess nero blows
