I have a Gateway MX6441 and the DVD player doesn't work properly. It plays, but is very "choppy". The laptop is about 6 months old and the DVD player worked fine at first. I bought it from Best Buy and they told me while it's under warranty, they have to send it to Gateway and it could take 2-3 MONTHS to get back. Any ideas/suggestions? Thank you.

Doing a google search for people with similar problems couldn't hurt. I would go ahead and send in the laptop. Also check your system for recent bloat ware which would potentially drain system performance resulting in choppy dvd playback...hope you get your issue resolved.

I have the exact same problem with this lousy Gateway MX6441 (worked at first but then DVD player is choppy). I have tried to reach their support both on the web (unsuccessful - site wouldn't work) and via phone (after trying over a dozen times, but never got through to a human being, except once, after being on hold for over 2 hours - but the guy hung up on me before I could even say a word - he got on the line, and very quickly and unintelligibly said "this is ???, employee number ???? I am transferring you to technical support", and then....click).

I tried to return this piece of junk to Circuit City but to no avail. They said "sorry, you've had it for 6 months. We'll send it to Gateway and you should get it back in 2-3 months."

I can't be without a laptop for that long as I use it for work.

Recommendation for anyone: NEVER BUY GATEWAY!!!

When I sent my MX7515 for a hinge repair to GW (trough BB) they also changed my DVD (HL-DT-ST GWA-4082N) for the TS-L532u . I did not notice any problems with my old DVD but they change it anyway....maybe they proactively did it to avoid future problems, now I understand....

2-3 months??? It shouldn't take that long, my hinge repair, screen flicker and DVD service was no more than 2-3 weeks. I went to BB get it back just after the 3rd week. Direct service with GW should be even faster.
You should also try a lens cleaner or firmware upgarde..if any available.
    Good luck!

If it choppy you might need to see if DMA is enabled. I've had my drive revert to PIO mode before and noticed this choppiness.
