    Hi All.

Just wondering how much noise and vibration you're getting out of the DVD drive on a 7811. If I leave a disc in, when the computer boots up and spins the DVD up, there's a ton of vibration noise. It makes the whole desk buzz. I've had to put some rubber bumpers on the bottom of my laptop. When the disc is playing the noise and vibration is relatively mild.

Is what I'm experiencing normal, or should I ask for a replacement drive? I'm guessing this vibration is just due to cheap quality, not a defect, since my Gateway desktop's DVD drive was like this, but I'm interested in hearing others' experience either way.

    thanks,

    - Frank

I've experienced that in some other laptop and desktop DVDs I've owned (I've owned well over a dozen CD and DVD players, burners, and combos), Not many of them have exhibited this, but enough of them that lead me to believe it's not a rare occurance and that it doesn't necessarily indicate a problem. One of my current Thinkpad DVD drives behaves as you suggest, but hasn't had a problem burning/playing DVDs. The DVD drive on my 7811 behaves quite nicely, however.

Ya, I should have said it has not happened to me on 7811. I too have had it happen on other units. Even on those it was not consistent. It only happened once in awhile, like the dvd was in crooked or something.

Mine (7811) does the same thing, annoying as hell. I seldom use the DVD drive so I live with it, the rest of the unit has been rock solid.
