I prefer DVD+R. It has better error correction. Depending on the drive, DVD+R can be bitset. Bitsettings marks the disc so your DVD player sees it as a DVD-ROM making it nearly 100% compatible. I use use junky DVD-Rs for my PS2 though. It loves them.

For what it's worth, it's all more dependent on what you're going to use the discs for.

For data backup on the computer itself, DVD+RW is the way to go. If your drive doesn't support bitsetting, DVD-R for set-top DVD players is the way to go. For just all purpose, cheap discs, DVD+R is it.

I have seen one DVD player fail to play a DVD+R in many years.

No I only said "What he said lol" because about the DVD-r and DV+r he pretty much pin pointed each of their purposes.

DVD-R's will give you better compatibility with other devices. If its only for your computer go with +R's, but if you plan on taking them places or using them in DVD players or whatever, go with high quality -R's, and don't burn at max speed (For movies).
