I have a Gateway MT6705 laptop running on Vista Home Premium. After a failed back-up attempt where Vista tried to format my DVD-RW drive or something (?), my DVD-RW drive is not reading the discs I put in it. I'll put a DVD in it and go to Computer and double click the DVD-RW drive and a dialogue box pops up that says this: "D:/ Application Can't Be Found". I then checked the device controller and it says the drive is working properly. Checked for updates, there weren't any. What should I do? Should I uninstall the drive, restart and hope Vista recognizes the new hardware and installs it?

That's a good start...reinstalling the drivers. I think there is a SATA DVD drive hotfix for Vista as well, because of some similar issues. Search for it and good luck!
