DDR3 has 204 pins while DDR2 has 200 pins. The DDR3 RAM SODIMMs won't even fit. So no.

DDR3 doesnt give the system a significant boot over performance anyway.
It's your GPU and CPU hold you back.

Someone more learned will no doubt correct me, but DDR3 is no guarantor of speed by itself. Its key advantage at this point is less energy consumption and consequently less heat.

When tri-channel memory becomes widely available, then the speed differences between DDR2 & DDR3 will be hugely apparent.

I know that DDR3 has higher clock speed, but also higher latency, or something like that. To be honest, I don't know what it really means. I do know that when DDR2 came out, it was in the same situation as DDR3. Then they kept coming out with lower latency DDR2, and eventually everyone switched over, so I'm guessing it'll be the same with DDR3. I still don't really understand this speed vs. latency thing though.

DDR3 consumes less power, so this is the only major effect it really holds. You will gain about 10 mins battery life, maybe more, by switching.

But you can't switch unless you want someone go back and redesign your laptop's motherboard..
