Hello everyone,
I recently bought a Gateway NV52 laptop from best buy.
I don't exactly know the date i bought it, but its under a year old for sure, and more like 7 maybe 8 months old from my best guess.
So it's relatively new by "out of the box" standards.
I now have a big problem however...
Up until last week i have had ZERO troubles with this laptop. It has ran beautifully, and fit my needs perfectly.
Here is the back story just for reference if it helps.
Wednesday night i closed the lid and left it plugged in as i always do while i went off to bed.
Thursday i woke up went to work, came home, and went to bed after dinner... I did not touch the laptop whatsoever Thursday.
Friday, the same scenario, i went to work, came home, eventually to bed, without ever touching it.
Now, Saturday morning i woke up and decided to get on my computer to chill out a bit. Well, i opened the lid, hit the power button, and nothing happened...
(NOTE![]()
I noticed The battery was cold, even after being plugged in for two days. I am not sure, but this may help one you slim down possibilities, because normally it is not, its usually Luke warm.
anyway, After some anger issues, a few choice words later I went online (on my GF's mac) to see what i could find out.
I found a few forums with suggestions to try, here is what i have tried so far...
1. Extending the screen back fully, then trying to power it on... Did not work.
2. Continually hitting the power button as i open & shut the lid "Try to find a sweet spot i guess"... Did not work.
3. Took off the face cover, and checked the little circular chip behind the power button to ensure the little connection was tight, it was.
4. A generic reset it was called. Take battery out, unplug from ac adapter, unplug ANY usb's etc... hold power button for 1 full minute, then try powering up... did not work. (I also tried several other variations of this method, both with and without battery in, ac plugged in etc...)
And that is all i can remember doing as of now.
When its plugged in to the wall, the little blue battery light is on... which tells me the ac cord isn't bad (or at least i wouldn't think) its getting power.
The warranty is up, and i have no additional insurance on it so sending it back to gateway is out, and taking it to best buy is out (or any other computer place for that matter) because i do not have much spare money at the moment.
After a slight layoff at work i was pushed behind on bills, and this is one of them so I AM still paying monthly for this now dead laptop... Any suggestions or confirmations would be appreciated, thank you.

It should be a 1 year warranty, since you are still paying on it you should be able to get the reciept records..............

I dismantled the laptop and found a suspicous character...
The power cord that runs from the power button board to the motherboard, one of the little wires appears to have been pinched. Its basically almost cut in half, and is only hanging on by what appears the opposite sides wire casing.
Now my next problem is... were the hell do i find this kind of part?
Fixing it myself is an option, but its so damn small i dont know if my hands are steady enough for that.
Dead Gateway?
