I recently bought a brand new Gateway P-7811 laptop from Best Buy.
When I got the Laptop home I found a single dead pixel on the bottom center of the screen, 4 pixels up from the bottom.
I called my local Best Buy and the man I talked to said that even with just one dead pixel I could exchange it without paying a restocking fee, since it was "defective".
On a Laptop with a 1920x1080 pixels, should I just accept that I have one dead pixel that isnt very noticible? Or, should I take my chances and exchange the Laptop to try and get a "perfect" display, which also may end up giving me a worse display.
So basically the question I want an answer to is whether my display is about as good as I can hope for, or is it worth the risk to exchange it.
(Again the question is not whether I CAN exchange it, but whether I SHOULD)
Thank You,

Ask yourself does it bother you? are you going to think about it everytime you use your machine ? are you going to be looking for it everytime the screen turns a color where its going to stand out . if you answered yes to any or all of those questions then just take it back , otherwise dont sweat it .
I have a stuck one on the screen i put in a few months back and it drives me batsh*t crazy and its on t he bottom left but when the screen turns black theres this little blue evil eye just staring at me.
My friend is buying my laptop this week from me and it wont bother him because his eyesight is not the best to begin with.

Well, it is annoying to think about for a while, just like for my ipod touch, but ultimatly it isnt very noticible.
I am just wondering what my chances are for getting a "Perfect" screen, because right now I would say mine is about as close as you can get without being perfect, since it is only 1 dead pixel and it is on the very bottom of the screen, where the start bar is.
I am just afraid if I exchange it I will end up with an even worse one, and I need it for my job relativly soon so I cant just exchange it infinatly until everything is perfect. -
I hear if a pixel is colored black when the background is white you have a dead pixel, but if the pixel is another color you may be able to reset it? Do a google search for "pixel fix" there is software you can try before you decide to return it, hey it's worth a try

You plunked down a fair chunk of change, why settle for less than perfect? Mine had two stuck pixels AND stability issues. I returned it asap.

I've had one on my 6860 since i bought it. It's smack in the middle too. It's a stuck pixel, but I havent been able to fix it.
The only reason I didn't take it back is I am planning on putting a 1680 x 1050 lcd in it soon. hehe -
Yes, you should.

i'd return it, i hate dead pixels. got one on my psp, exchanged cause i couldn't stop looking at it. on my dads comp there is one, if i just look at the screen to watch a youtube vid real quick, look at that first. once i find it i can't forget about it.

I am really frustrated now, I got a new Laptop and it has a single dead pixel in a slightly more noticible place.
I wonder if BB will start getting on my case once I bring in an item for exchange after they already replaced my previous one. -
If it's not perfect take it back. There's no reason to keep a defective product. Some other guy had to exchange it twice. You should open the next one in-store and power it up.
Consumerist has a great article on returning stuff, give it a read!

Definitely take it back if it bothers you at all! When I got mine it had 3-4 stuck pixels that drove me nuts, and it had cloudiness that you could see on the left side when something dark was on the screen.
No matter what I did I always would check for the stuck pixels and it ruined my experience completely- I tried to fool myself into ignoring it, but I really couldn't.
Exchanged the laptop and haven't been more content over the decision. My new one has a flawless screen, and I'm loving it =)
Also was able to get a $200 refund when the price dropped, and the free $50 game. Very thankful to Best Buy for all of that!! -
lol, I went to exchange mine, got a new one after arguing with them that their support said I could exchange it, then when I got back, I powered it up and found another single dead pixel, approximatly 4 pixels farther up then I found the last one.
I am gonna return it tommorow morning, because there is this girl on the evening shift who is stupid.
When she sold me my laptop, I had to wait for an hour for her to find it, that is how long it took her to ask another employee.
Then when I brought it back I was assigned to her for my exchange, and she said she would get someone for me and walked off. 1 hour later I see her off helping some other customer buying a computer, while I still sit there waiting.
So its time for Exchange round 2! -
Ugh... I got a dead pixel... exchange number 3 is going to happen
