So I got my 7801u yesterday and once I turned the computer on.. the power cable makes a constant humming noise.. the fan thats under the left side of the keyboard kicks on and off real hard.. my old 6860 did not do that.. The system seems to drag down at times.. like surfing the web it seems to slow deen and glitch up where when I scroll up or down it moves very slow and then its over with and moves fast, same thing happens in games.. slows down and then speeds back up.. and the final thing .. the screen has about 10 Dead Pixels and on the left side of the screen there is this HUGE white spot that covers just about the whole left side of the screen.. its more noticeable at an angle..

I'm contacting Newegg today and hoping I can get a replaceable.

That sucks about the system dragging and the dead pixels, i would get a replacement, but the humming power block and fan pulsing have all been part of the 7811's "charm".

the 7801u is the 7811 with a couple "upgrades" so it will most likely have the same characteristics of the 7811. You can buy a new 180W targus power block for 30$ sometimes on amazon if it really bothers you (or complain to gateway and i've heard they may replace) and the fan pulsing is not as bad with the .12 BIOS.

yeah man.. I was so happy to have it in my hands and now i'm dissapointed.. I assume I need to talk to Newegg for a replacement..which i'm gonna start with them.. I have terrible luck with my technology having problems and well..They should be able to replace the darn thing..yeah the system drags down and when I installed Ntune and open the program 3 times, everytime the system blue screened..

i have the exact problems with my 7811. at an angle, on a black background, the left side looks like a frikin' x-ray. what sort of quality control do they have ? while my 2888 model doesn't have the overheating issues (knock on wood) it seems gateway cut corners with the screen.

Re the scrolling on the web stuff. I see that, too, on long web pages. It's a pain when you are reading a page with a lot of text, like a FAQ. But, I think that's an Aero thing. It's not exclusive to the 7811. Papa says he sees that on his HP, also w/Vista64

The 7801u I received from Newegg doesn't have any of the screen issues you mentioned... and not sure about the lagging when scrolling thing, I haven't noticed it. I am very happy with mine, no major issues.

yeah even though that 2 week wait is gonna suck I would send it back.. reading a couple of the newegg reviews and there were people that had issues with shoddy QC on these systems coming from Gateway

my power block doesnt hum and no fan pulse that i've noticed, 9c.08.00 bios. the 180w targus will DEFINITELY be a good investment though.

Your right. i think mostly the complaints come from people that got the ribbed powerblock. i had the ribbed with my first system and it was loud and HOT, then had to have the whole laptop replaced and got the smooth power block and it isn't near as noticable, but if it is quiet in the room i can sometimes hear it. no fan pulsing with the .08 BIOS i'm surprised i thought everyone had that... it never really bothered me but i did switch to .12 just for the heck of it and as people said, it did take the edge off the pulsing a little bit for me...

I just recieved mine a couple of hours ago, and so far so good. I have 1 tiny dead pixel on the bottom of the screen but I can hardly even see it. I will report back if anything comes up.

Yeah when I am gaming my only option is to wear earbuds so I dont bother the other 7 guys that I have to live with. So if there is a pulsing I can't hear it... I will go grab my laptop and bring it here into work tonight and give it a try.

After being on it for awhile now its not really pulsing anymore just a bit loud. But compared to my Alienware laptop its very cool and I don't have my cooling pad right now (at home left it in my college apartment). Installing/Updating WoW to see how that runs. Also downling pcmark and 3dmark vantage.

Also, I have found one major pet peeve. The fn key where ctrl usually is, this is a major pita while gaming but I will get used to it. Also the entirely too small right shift key.
