I ordered an NX860 directly from Gateway on 3/10. They said it would be shipped on 3/14. They then postponed until 3/23, and now this morning it was extended to 4/12, over a month from the time I ordered it. I've ordered computers from both Dell and Gateway and they were always pretty good about quickly shipping them out. I just get mealy-mouthed stock answers from Gateway regarding the delay....no straight answers. Today they say on their website that an ordered NX860 will be shipped on 3/29, so it appears they are misrepresenting the shipment date just to sell the computer. Does anyone have a clue about what's going on? Is it a shortage of the Duocore processors or Nvidea cards?![]()

That general ship date is probably for the basic model. Odds are, an option or upgrade you chose has delayed the shipment of your particular machine. So if you knew what that option was and deleted it, it'd probably come earlier.
I know the nvidia cards have been in slim supply right now. I'm not sure if Gateway's website adjusts the ship date due to availability of parts. Try building your machine again and see if the ship date is later than 3/29. If so, try re-doing it, deleting one upgrade at a time, until the date goes back to 3/29 or so. Then you'll have found the component responsible for the delay.
The Core Duo processors aren't generally in that short of supply...and would certainly affect the overall ship dates of all the NX860's. -
Tullnd, Thanks for response. Playing with options didn't change their claimed shipping date of 3/29. I did note that suddenly, yesterday, the status report for my order from Gateway shows that the notebook is "in production". This occurred after I sent them a somewhat irritated email complaining about the run-around and string of delays. It remains to be seen whether it is really in production at this time, or not.

From what I hear, Dell has been having delays too. Nothin' to do but wait.

So, I'm having the same issue. I'm not too concerned, I've been in contact with Gateway over the phone for a couple weeks now. They tell me it is the 667Mhz ram that is the issue, not the go 7800's. I ordered my 860XL on 8 March and it was slated to be at my house the 13th of April even though my 'Sales' rep said I should recieve it no later than the 24th of March. So I called his supervisor and they put priority on my notebook and shipping it Monday.

A.C., I didn't order the 667 so I don't know what the issue is in my case. I did get back a fairly frank answer from Gateway stating that they were able to offer lower prices because they kept a very low stock and relied on suppliers to meet shipping dates. After I sent my frustrated email to them on 3/23 they moved the status of my order from "processing" up to "in production", but it's been that for 3 days. I suspect it was just to placate me. I was hoping to have the notebook for a trip next month, but it's looking unlikely.

Shipped 28 Mar and I have a tracking number, I hope yours is on the way too.

Yes, mine is here in Sacramento at Fedex scheduled for delivery this morning. I've tracked it for 4 days all the way from Shanghia to Anchorage to Indianpolis to Sacto. I might give some impression of machine after playing with it a little. As a notebook newbie, however, with nothing to compare it with except my old Dell 8100 desktop, I'm not prepared to give a competent technical review.

I had the same issue with my NX860XL. Ordered over the phone on 2/16 and received 5 weeks later due to "part shortages at the manufacturer because of the unexpected popularity of the system."
I have had it now for several weeks and I love it.
